Examples of my weathering...

Have applied a further lashing of dark rust and then white spirit.

Have applied a base coat of "gypsum" splatter / dust which I will add to with some manual addition of white paint followed by white spirit rub down:

You know Tase, you may have stumbled on a new sales line for that well known Swedish retailer.

It could be called the TALC - it's the sort of stupid name they'd use !

As for using the TALC, it wasn't nice to use to be honest - the smell is overpowering !

It's also very very fine and contact with glue (PVA) only provides a thin coat of material. I may well have to add a bit more today "loose" to make up for this.

The plus side is that (in my opinion) they look good, and overall they are perhaps better than I thought they would turn out (mid way through I had the wobbles on the rust).

I would have used spray snow or textured paint if they had arrived for the weekend. Maybe I'll try that with some MEAs.

What's next then ? I have a "herd" of OCAs, OBAs, VAAs etc to do that have been given their base weathering coat. Really wanting to weather my Seacows or the other rake of JJAs I have..

Thanks for the interest.

Nick

Thanks BillyB

Some pics from the layout (not great and ignore the dross in the background):

Didn't get time to run them...that is the issue at present, work on stuff at home but don't get much opportunity to actually "play trains"

Well, here we are again..

I have given the Tamiya textured paint a go masquerading as gypsum in an MEA.

Nicer to use than that horrible baby talc, but the result isn't as good and may very well need some talc adding !

Still needs some splatter adding etc but its missing that powdery look:

The next thing to try is "snow in a can".....

Have fitted a flashing tail lamp to a KTA pocket wagon today and done a few chips, gonna need to have a tidy up and some rapid work on the layout for impending visit by winner of charity auction !

Still....it's a long weekend !

I've just found this thanks to billyb_imp.

Really impressed with the weathering and the different aproach to wagon loads.

I'm going to have to have a good read and make notes when I'm due to start on some.

Thanks David, Thank you Billyb

Bit of fun here that should really go on the layout thread.

Made a couple of 67 dummies [turning the wheels the opposite way round] and then hauling with a new style 67:

First up my RHTT train based on Dapol FEAs and S-Kits kit crossing a NR test train [all coaches bought I'm ashamed to say]

Next is the RHTT crossing with an MPV:

Finally, the NR test train and 2 DRS Class 20s on a flask working:

So, some running today which was fun.

Hi John

Your pseudonym reminds me that I have 37501/502 to contrive into some action also. Maybe on the steels (minus the EWS wagons)

I do have a few SSAs that are either pristine or need redoing REALLY rusty and mangled !

You can't go far wrong with this beauty done by Cav:

http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/38142-cavs-workbench/page-4

Other weathering projects that need considering are:

Seacows - REALLY rusty

OCA / OBA - already started

VGA / VAA etc - already started

FEA flats

Megafrets

Ran a huge IOA load today with 66709 at the helm but didn't video. Need to consider replacing those bloomin' couplings though....

Even with the space I have it's impossible to have what you want "out" so a lot of stuff sits in boxes awaiting a turn.

Should I be complaining. No.

Have a few repaints due back this week including 66720 (children's livery), royal 67s and 56042 with 58 bogies. Can't wait !!

In between that there is of course work to pay for this stuff..

Regards

Nick

Thanks Folks

Little or nothing to report on the weathering front.

Spent some time over the Easter break clearing up and meant to do some soldering on the track etc but didn't get round to it.

Will be doing some more vids, but guess they need to go in the layout thread.

Have dreamt up some tasty combos today whilst at work::::

350 drag with either barrier coaches or the barrier flats / vans (have a 350 dummy)

Same as above but with Connex 465 and Arlington barrier coaches

W&S lash up with ex BR mk3s, a Virgin or two and maybe the white & blue DVT thrown in for good measure

67 / RHTT / Management train DVT as per MML operations previous years (not 2012 though I seem to remember)

Double head Colas 47 + IOA (check WNXX today)

Maybe a 66 with DIT 90 or 92 in tow then a load

Can't wait !!

Just caught up with this - some nice weathering there.

Pretty certain the

Which reminds me I must finish off my ballast weights for my drag and weather my VGA's!

Cheers,
