I'll hand the compliment back to you, I had a look at your YouTube channel and your gypsums are very good too. Transfers included ! (Sorry for taking sooooo loonnnnnngggg with mine) I do have a load of stuff left if anyone else thinks they are useful / good enough. Yep, still got 708, long term plan to do 718 at some point. yorkie_pudd
Good day Nick just catching up on your workings and seriously impressed by all of it, the logs and manky gypo liners are just 1st class.

yorkie_pudd
Cheers Nick and those last two pics do look well rust pitted and grubby as in real life.
Richard Pike
Fantastic Nick, the Gypsum's are real inspiration, I must get on with mine.
rs4
Thanks Richard Having got past the transfer issue they have turned out great. Funny how (for me) roadblocks are set up in my head but looking back now I'd just make the transfers and get on with it. I have failed to modify the FEAs with buffers each end, I didn't realise for ages.... I may go back and alter in years to come. Ahead of a planned video, here are both sides of the sets: Next up I'm doing some RMC JGAs, wheel sets weathered, prototype photos gathered. Bring on the dirt. bobster
Superb work as usual Nick, very nice - Looking forward to the RMC JGA's, one of my favourite wagons. Cheers, Bob.
rs4
I'm going to say it, but it might appear to be heresy on here..... I like building and painting stuff. I don't enjoy running trains quite as much..... It can be frustrating ! Not a great running session today, dirty track, DCC power issues, derails..... Just about cobbled this video together....... I may post the "fail" video later on....

rs4
Hi All I've spent a few minutes musing about the RMC JGAs this morning while on the choo choo. Okay...a grotty 365. The weld lines are important to replicate, there are 4 on each side, plus offset ones on the angled hood. Think I will be masking and painting on prior to any weathering. They are quite prominent. I haven't got any photos I can paste in here unfortunately. Here goes a test mask and line paint. I need to let these lines dry before I do the offset hood ones. It looks rubbish at this point but I think it will work. Doing this for each of the 18 or so wagons I have is going to be painful but worthwhile, they wouldn't look right without it..in my view. Scrutinising the actual wagons I notice the Bachmann version is missing various small boxes, transfers appear to be in the wrong places at times, even the bogie position or other detailing compared to their position looks to be at question. Okay... Happy modelling. Nick
Richard Pike
Have you thought about scrubbing the weld lines, then just fill them with a dark wash prior to weathering ?.
rs4
That's an idea Richard - when I have some good modelling time I will try to progress this. The return of F1, Mothers Day... Nothing's happening this weekend !
Richard Pike
Tell me about it, I am fitting a new kitchen and need to get finished so I can repaint 66709 into its new livery
rs4
I'd suggest you get your priorities right..... The kitchen comes second !
RMweb Premium njee20 Posted March 20, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 20, 2015 (edited) Interested to see how that comes out! Often wondered about using a scalpel to gently score the surface, then drag paint into the mark to simulate the weld lines, they are so prominent on some wagons once they age - JPAs, HHAs, TEAs etc. Your stuff looks great, sure the JGAs will too! rs4
changing tack slightly, in order to get a project finished off..... I'd bought this rake of steel wagons off an rmwebber a while ago: Have finally got round to weathering the wheels, then I'll fit brake disc inserts: Yawn, takes some time but it really is worth it, nothing worse than shiny wheels in my view ! And yes, I'm avoidng the JGAs !
RMweb Premium James Makin Posted March 21, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 21, 2015 Dedication Nick!! I get bored just doing about 4 axles when weathering a pair of OBAs let alone the 60-odd in your photo!!
rs4
Dedication, stupidity, denial, subversion, aversion, diversion.... take your pick ! 140 discs later: And just one wagon re-wheeled. Much better in my view ! It's stuff like this that makes models special though....now, where is that network rail sunshine yellow - I'm sure there are a few all over yellow steel carriers out there ; /pro/

Wayne 37901
Hi rs4, Just came across this thread while looking something else, there is some nice work here. Quite a while back you showed some pictures of your MBA 'Megabox' wagons filled with scrap. Can you remember how you weathered the insides? Cheers
