Examples of my weathering...

Thanks for the comments and likes as ever.

I do mean to have a running session with one or both mk3 sets, awkwardly the power cars are yet to be weathered.....

I do love the RHTT stuff so here is a vid from yesterday. Watch it until the end, nice bit of slo-mo at a key point !

Probably should be in about 3 areas, prototype under RHTT, train spotting at work and here !

How many KFA log carriers will these fill ?

About 1/2 of one wagon......................

The longer it goes on, the less likely I'll get round to loading mine.

Cheers,

Mick

I'm midway through redecorating our hall, stairs and landing, including all the woodwork etc.... So modelling time and inspiration has been in short supply.

I did have a window this morning.... Not to paint, but to glue some logs in a KFA log carrier.

I've promised myself one more tonight (after that I need to weather the remaining 8 before loading)

I have the timber seasoned now, it's a slightly tricky job - not to over glue and the need to be careful with the stanchions - one delaminated during the "load"

Overall pleased.... Bring on wagon two please.

Thanks for the likes - appreciated.

As I promised myself, number two. It's about an hour to cut and fill. Not a nice thought regarding filling the rest.....

Now to wait for "Homeland" - the Sunday treat.

The nearest wagon to the camera I'll fit a flashing tail lamp - plenty of room under the deck on these Heljan wagons.

You know Ken, the rake of log wagons will look seriously good when done.... It's gonna take some doing though !

No wagons available tonight to load, although I could have cut timber...

... I had weathered a GBRF 92 a few weeks ago, full grime to under frame, wheels out and painted. De motored. Casual overspray to bodyshell which in retrospect was way to harsh. I've been considering a rescue mission using t cut. So, I gave that a go tonight.

Before:

And after application, rub down with cotton bud and a wash off in the sink:

Better.

I am intending to use it on a "drag" with GBRF container train and a 66 up front. Will likely need to keep the ugly couplings etc.

Over and out.

Gap.

Been busy doing the hall, stairs and landing.

Last weekend I managed to weather the remaining KFA log carriers, so no excuses on loading them now.....

My arriva 67 set is now just missing the buffet. Coaches weathered and discs fitted. The DVT was a respray I paid for. Wheels painted, under frame and roof airbrushed, along with the discs they look much better.

Thanks Richard and Jack, I have to return the compliment to you - there's lots of stuff on here that inspires us all.

Just imagine the combined time wasted on such dabbling !

I have done all the jobs in the house twice, nay three times trying to avoid a horrible task:post-1261-0-97307600-1419787740_thumb.jpg

Previously I had weathered my remaining 8 KFA log carriers:

What a shame, I've had to break to cook the kids tea, must try to get one or two done tonight as this is getting silly now.

All the best for 2015

Nick

Ok.... Apres tea...

It's taken me about 30 mins just to load one wagon. Most of the prepared twigs used for this one....

I can only think of how good the whole rake will look rather than being short sighted, blister fingered, foaming at the mouth with pencils up my nostrils and my pants on my head....

Btw, using sticky pva glue to fix them in place..

Thanks Jock, and all the best for 2015 to you also.

I suppose most of us work and in part that funds are hobbies - so maybe there is a place for work after all ??!

I'm officially requesting to "see the light at the end of the tunnel":

8 down.....2 to go...

I'm more excited about what we can do on here - with the help of various folk who make parts, transfers, kits etc than what the big boys are up to. Very uninspiring for several years now. Of course, some base models help - like the cargowaggon flat being used here.

Flashing tail lamp fitted to end wagon, coupling completely removed etc:

Have had a go at some straps, insulation tape, fixed with a dab of super glue each end.

Think they do add to the oval look, so will do the others - perhaps varying the strap colour etc.

I'm in that end stage here....the one that never actually finishes......

Looking superb Nick, nice one for sticking with it too! (I say that...but I've only got one wagon and I haven't bothered to fit it with a load...)

In the pic I've quoted it seems you've snapped the end off and re attached it...is this the case? It must have taken some force to break it there, or is the MDF brittle?

Just curious, as I personally wouldn't have chosen MDF, how is it to work with? :)

Regards,

Jack.
