Other days it must have had up to twenty SPA type wagons!
Fat Controller
No photos, but when DBS still ran wagonload freights through the Tunnel, I saw a pair of Class 92s hauling two ex-Ferry Tubes (OIX) and a single SNCF low-sided open (IFX or IFB). retbsignalman
Hi! Around Inverness there's the weekly Lairg oil tanks, which is usually 6 x TTA's. Haulage has been provided by EWS since they restarted about 10 years ago and has been 37/4s, 66's or 67's. There was an intermodal train run for Malcolms from Grangemouth for a while around 2010/11 which consisted of a pair of 'twin' container flats and normally had a pair of DRS class 37s for haulage. Ideal for a short train at the equivilent of 'four on' and heritage traction as well! For a while this and the oil tanks were combined on Friday mornings on the northbound leg and on Mondays southbound (the 67 off the sleepers worked the tanks to Lairg and back on a 'fill in' turn) Currently theres the 'as required' DRS flask train to/from Georgemas which has one or two FNA's sandwiched between two PFA's, top and tailed by a pair of 37s (259 & 602 this week). Hope this helps, Graeme

Do you have any idea why the PFAs are in the consist? I though the requirement for barrier wagons had disappeared.
retbsignalman
Hi! The PFAs are there to help distribute the weight of the train, rather than as barriers. The Far North Line is RA5 north of Invergordon and as such when loaded the train is overweight for certain structures. With the need for two locos, this 'spreads' the train weight over these structures, rather than loco+ heavy (RA6)FNA+ loco. Cheers G
