Thorpe Road is packed and loaded into 2 cars ready for the weekend - except for the row of terraced houses I'm still working on!

Please call by to see some 1960's TT gauge (3mm scale) in action.

Look forward to seeing the layout. Just sorting out stuff for the Patriot Stand.

Looking forwards to viewing all the spiffing layouts

A treat in store for this weekend. Catch a sneak peak at the first test run on Friday evening of Dorehill St Steven presented at the Leamington & Warwick Model Railway Society and Exhibition this weekend by the Soar Valley Model Railway Club. The video is a quick 360 degree run around this truely exceptional layout. The eagle eyed amongst you might notice an obstruction on the line.

I've often thought Twitter (and Facebook) could be a useful resource when it comes to promoting a model railway exhibition, great stuff on your feed so far.

I'm about to set off to collect Andy (wagonbasher) ready for the penulitmate day of shunting on Foundry Lane, do say hello if you visiting the show.

Cheers,

Mark (@StaffsFinescale)

I went today the first time I have been for a few years, some nice layouts Richmond & Loch Tat for example and specialist trade but felt there were too many second hand traders and fund raising societies and other space fillers.

Another thing as you walked into the hall I would have liked to have a headline layout in front by the entrance rather than trader tables, some thought in how layouts and traders could be grouped together maybe an idea for the future rather than the random way things seemed to be placed.

Anyway a nice show at good venue, worth a visit but would be better if some of the chaff was removed from the wheat.

Well I enjoyed the show, thanks LWMRS some excellent layouts, plenty of trade. Indulged myself with an Iwata airbrush. Had a nice chat with the ever ebullient Pete Waterman, he is so passionate about his railways and always happy to impart his knowledge. Generally an excellent day, very friendly staff and in fact everyone involved.

Pleasant show.  Ample space and some good exhibits though much I had seen before.   Top for me was Kimble.  Particulalrly good in that when I arrived the MPD at the top had only 1 diesel shunter and one diesel loco.  The emptiness captured something of the decline.

Overall strong on 7mm.  Lots of second hand but this was a locas as much as a modellers show.   There is a contrast between the Stafford showground mudbath and undercover parking (in a cowshed) at Stoneleigh.

I'd hate to be the owner / builder / general dogsbody of the layout nearest the door....although we did seem to get positive comments from punters who would readily admit to not looking at such a specialist layout as an American one...

What a great shame that one of the traders had two Bachmann coil steel wagons stolen from his stall by two people working together. He thinks that one leaned over the stall pretending to reach for something at the back of his stall thus obscuring his accomplice stood behind slipped his hand through and lifted the wagons. Only going on what the elderly gent running the stall said but it is sad that there are people in our hobby that do this sort of thing.

A thief was caught recently at the Bristol O Gauge show - not many details available but it seems he was there stealing to order and had got things from 3 traders before he was spotted and later challenged by the venue security staff who sat on him until the police arrived. At the Reading O gauge show before Christmas, Slaters had a complete loco kit taken (was it the same guy wanting bits to finish the kit??). The O Gauge Guild have taken note of this and had additional stewards on duty at Kettering last week and all of the 'Bring & Buy' was in display cabinets behind Perspex sheet instead of on an open table. Such a shame that it comes to this as most visitors to Guild shows are members.

We are clearly alert to this problem. There were many stewards on the floor, some visible, some not and we would encourage any visitor or trader with concerns to report them to any steward immediately. We will act on reports and involve venue security if appropriate.

We were aware of one gentleman who was reported as acting suspiously and he was watched from a distance for some time. However the Exhibition Manager received no reports of any thefts and we would ask that any incidents are reported as soon as practical.

Please be alert but at the same time enjoy the show today.

Got back home in time to cook sausages for the welsh contingent and watch the second half of the rugby :sungum:  :sungum:

Really enjoyed the show - thanks to all involved - Thorpe Rd, Marsh Chipping and Kimble get my vote.

Great to chat on what was probably a quieter day

My only previous visit was three or four years ago, when the snow was nearly knee deep.

This year was much better - and not only because the weather was also much better.

It may have been around for donkeys years, but this was the first time I had seen Bodmin and I was immediately able to appreciate just how good it is - when it first appeared on the scene it must have been so far ahead of its time it was jaw-dropping.

Hopefully Richmond, just across the aisle from Bodmin, will prove to be a worthy successor when it is completed.

I enjoyed the show which was well organised and had a friendly atmosphere; as I've said before I liked the efforts the LWMRS were going to to use social media to interact and its a very good venue.  I would say that the show seemed smaller than when I last visited in 2012, although that could be just because it was in a different hall?  From an exhibitor's perspective something you might want to consider for next year; when marking out the hall it would be helpful to write layout name (or stand number) on the markings somewhere - I was pointed in the right direction by a steward, but later found that I'd started setting up in the wrong spot as there was a similar sized gap to mine one row further into the hall!

The show seemed reasonably busy so I hope it was a success for the society.

Mark,

The floor area of the exhibition this year was much the same as previous years but the hall is twice the size of Hall 1 we used previously, and the space is more useable.

There is the facility in this Hall to grow the Exhibition year on year by pushing the demountable wall further back, and increase the size without the hassle of multi-halls, We couldn't get anymore space out of Hall 1 without the move to Hall 2.

Mark,

As one of the marking out team, we're always looking at ways to do this part of the job better. We don't get access to the hall until 12:00, and with the first exhibitors arriving at 13:00 that doesn't leave a lot of time for extras.

Apologies if there was confusion with regard to your pitc h. I hope it wasn't a major nuisance.

One thing that does make things trickier is when layouts (in particular) aren't the size that we were told when they were booked - this year oe of the smaller layouts had grown significantly, and we even had the dimensions of our own Kimble (all 42' of it) down wrong.  (undersized inevitably!).

Thanks to all the exhibitors and traders for doing such a good job of getting packed away quickly and efficiently. Despite the size of the exhibition, we were out of the hall completely in under three hours - and would probably have made 2 1/2 hours had we not been waiting for our own van to make a return trip from our own clubhouse to pick up Kimble,

Hi All , To add my plaudits! A very quick fly round on Saturday arrived on 15.30 bus from Station and back on 17.00 ! A great show missed so much but Thorpe Road well worth the trip from Brum. All layouts I saw and traders seemed happy and yes the hall gives scope for growth. For me balance about right on layouts and traders but one pays for the other

For marking out - never enough time , Hall 5 at NEC takes 25 persons to mark out well but can be done by 15 and that is with an 05.00 start. My other show ground experiences has staff who have pre show created an A4 label with site name and table and chair hire - these even just taped to floor really gets message across. And yes every show manager and team can tell of layouts that grow. At one a layout owner came along with the extension as it was thought it could be made to fit!  Also the ever present metric V imperial will catch out the unwary!

Look forward to next year show, weather brilliant !! a good move gang. thanks

Robert

Cheers Rob - glad to hear you got to it this year - even if only briefly.  I  was off site on Saturday afternoon taking photos at a rugby match, but even so managed 25 hours on site over the weekend.
