Did you enjoy your brief coffee break?

Mike.

Yep, success for me and England. Postie delivered 18100 metro vick gas turbine at 1015, watched the cricket until the Aussies were bowled out and then stripped the carpet and grips from the hall and successfully removed the skirting boards before swmbo returned from work, and I got brownie points for the work I'd done. Then Watford drew at Everton on their first match in the Premiership. All in all a good day.

A bit of fun finding Peggy (D835 Pegasus), well i've ended up with two Pegs, at least for now. Some years back i converted two Bachmann 42s to 43 status, and gave the pair four different identities (some people hate me doing this), sod's law Bachmann choose the same name for their Gsyp!

The improvement in the 43's cab windows over the old 42 is remarkable! Slight criticism though, the weld / crease line that runs along the top of the sandbox fillers isn't there, or at least it's not apparent from Brian's photos.

Won't stop me having a few mind...

Blue one is in

Any advise on which sound chip to install on this and who could do a tip-top weathering job?

many thanks

colbard

I am not currently aware of any accurate recording on the market - and IMHO a Western would be better than a Class 42 Warship from the engine/transmission point of view although horns from 42 are probably better - but watch this space....

A tip top weathering job? Personal preference - best to do it yourself, you can do it! Have you seen a photo you would like to replicate?

Ah - if we are invited we will be back next year all things being equal...

Have you done any weathering?

P

P

Never done any weathering - eventhough I work in the commercial graphics industry !

Still in awe of people like Ian from Mercig and Chris from CJM. (both only do n gauge I believe).

Look forward to seeing you at Toddington next year I hope.

The 43s paradoxically didn't get as bad as the 42s and these tow have been withdrawn for a while....

None the less all of that is achievable with spray and washes - first step is removal of glazing and cab interiors then numbers and numbers etc from the loco if you are changing the ID - haven't got my hands on one of these yet so still waiting to see how hard Bachmann might have made that this time

Will also be fitting sound once we have one

What is the correct arrangement? Something like this?

/ /   \ \  /  \  / /   \ \

These two posts seem to have missed out on further comment, but it would appear that the vents open both ways and should all be open the same way. So if we model them open to be totally realistic we should then only run the locks one way except for shunting?

That is how i understood it from Alan. He is on nights and then rest days, so i have sent him an email as i wont see him until the middle of next week. When i have confirmed i will post on here.

Re the vents. Alan has replied. Only open the front cabs vents not the back. However if you ran above 60mph you should open the leading side cab window by 2 inches to avoid the lifting of floor boards of dust problem from the partial vacuum.

So, in conclusion, the following "should" be correct?

< // // / / // -- or -- \\ \ \ \\ \\ > (Unless the is a better clear photo... as per the Bachmann pic!)

Got our hands on one at last!

10 minutes later...

post-7138-0-42976200-1439405673_thumb.jpg

Easy peasy.... the glazing is extra secure with a lot of plastic around it , just got a scalpel blade behind the excess to lever away, digital pressure did the rest. Cabs easy too, bulkhead first then floor.

Modelstrip now applied to deal with numbers, OHLE flashes and that over sized double arrow

Name plate has to go too, look at that width discrepancy

post-7138-0-72739100-1439405842_thumb.jpg

Yup is going to be D843 with arrows at both ends

Interesting that the cab front glazing is all one piece with the centre 'frame' painted in Phil, I assumed that it was two seperate pieces with the frame as part of the bodyshell moulding!

Probably more robust the way it has been done Nidge

This really was a doddle to dismantle - should get it at least to the gloss varnish stage tonight

Chassis currently running in, a bit hesitant in one direction but generally OK

One of each on their way to Penhayle Bay :D

I'll assess whether to Modelstrip them on arrival or whether they just need a decent weathering and some crew added.  No need to change identities here but the barbed wire does look a mite oversized on 842.

Dear Phil

I have some model strip, but how do you apply, leave and remove it such that it only removes the printed  elements and not the blue paint beneath and around them?  I too wish to replace the nameplate with an etch but, never having tried this before, I do not want to end up with the blue coming away as well.

Best regards

I suspect the variations in apparent colour shade are due to the various photographic environments and lighting used.

I had concerns about the shade of green being used but these have been allayed as recent images show it to be perfectly acceptable (who is going to argue "correct"? ;) ) and suggesting some early shots were taken under quite high intensity lighting.

If the maroon is the same as that used on the later class 42 releases it too will be perfectly acceptable here and I suspect that body and chassis components will in fact be the same shade.  If they're not the lower parts will be blathered in dirt and oil by way of weathering anyway.
