Crisis Rail
Evening After being idle for nearly 2 years work is underway on the garage project and FO's successor. Previous content from way back when: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=45694 http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/50347-freight-only/ http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/15332-freight-only/ ***Images deleted as now non relevant to new concept*** The suspended frame is still in-situ as a "skeleton" frame totally stripped and awaiting MDF baseboards. Plan is to have not just one but 3 scenes on aligned and scenic breaked with the trackwork running through each - this being the fact that I cannot settle on any given scene and variation would hopefully avoid stagnation and generate interest. . Crisis Rail
A change of backscene to the old faithful and excellent Trentham Distribution - the Terraced backscene was to be quite honest overscale - more like 5.5 to 6mm to the foot - disappointed in this as I had a good idea for it after waiting for it's reissue. As the missus had a full day in Manchesters Trafford Centre I decided to have a full day in the garage...... A recent visit to the Gemini Retail Park at Warrington seeing a bridge over Sankey Brook on the A574 - Cromwell Ave.I thought how a single Freight Line would be over the brook in the form of a culvert or sluice. Routing of sluice / culvert and creation of embankments - only had the Blackberry - poor quality images. Ian
Crisis Rail
More progress later - embankments added using cereal box card on balsa supports as formers then covered with filler to give strength and a bit of texture - I ran out of filler. The backscene is temporary and an old offcut at present. Stock image - DB Class 60 will be the main traction on lengthy trains - oil / aviation fuel. All a bit messy especially the roughed routing! - needs a tidy up... and more filler. Cheers Ian

Crisis Rail
Cutout lined and tidied: The feature culvert - sluice - stormdrain looked too overscale and modern so I have decided to go for the older traditional girder approach closing off at one end to reduce the size. Positioning of AWS hut and associated relay boxes. Ian
Crisis Rail
Layout frame totally covered in black sheet shroud around and above to keep dust and general garage deposits out. C&L finescale track arrived - quality - single track - easy and pointless..... Front viewing cutout fascia routed from MDF and fixed - id backscene fixed and plaster embankments done Raided the scenics box for some "furniture" ideas - loosely placed for trial - nothing firm as yet. Junk in dried culvert? The original FREIGHT ONLY was just "further up the line" - I have used part 2 of the excellent backscene this time A true easy roundy not the biggest (things are tight in there for decent camera shots) but a "diolayout" or "layourama"? total running oval is 29ft nice enough for long scale length trains to pass through the viewing area - initial stock of a 60 EWS on a lengthy BP TTA being sourced. Then back onto Intermodals? - all of which I flogged last time round but tempted to have a change and go for MEGAFRETS with DRS Sheds or Stobarts - all in all for a scale length rake - expensive.... Ballasting next week after Traintronic signalling added on order - then needs some colour to brighten things up. Ian
Crisis Rail
Ballasting AWS Hut and Relay Box area - with temporary cabling covers between sleepers - idea used on the previous version of FO and find that it works and looks well. Ian
Classsix T
Well it doesn't get much simpler for trackplans, but the scenic details thus far are right on the money. Is the Trentham Dist. unit backscene image from Tinsley? Looks familiar. If so a railtour with choc/cream Riviera Trains stock t&t by locos of any flavour would fit in well. I did the Rother Don Rambler past there. Both ways natch! C6T.
Crisis Rail
Yes plan is simple - as FO lines are - time and money tight plus not being as &rsed fannying around with points and wiring - maybe on the next one - also (another) near scale intermodal Megafret rake will cost a bob. Railtour is a maybe - thanks for the suggestion - t&t 66 on the Preston and Heysham Dock branches a couple of years back plus RSG Deltic 22 and a 66 on the Preston Docks was interesting and drew the crowds most of who have probably not seen traction (or at least as good as this) cross the Strand Road crossing When was the Rother? (not my upload) I see what you mean regards Tinsley - passed there last week on the M1 - some sizeable units sprung up there. Trentham is near Stoke on Trent. Scenics next up - foilage and trees to blend into the backscene. Ian
Classsix T
Hi Ian, RDRambler plus other dubious 60 hauled crank-ex's in my TT link below, 2011 it says. Pair o' peds (hmm) and a 60 (I should think so too!). Tours are usually load to 13 bogies including genny van so a nice lengthy rake and as I say, anything goes for traction. Keeping tabs on progress, C6T.
Crisis Rail
Nice site - bookmarked - not too sure about Bassing my Face though. Tug 92 was on the 6e32 Immingham to Preston Docks a couple of weeks back abut 07:45 nice and close on the headshunt (notice nice and easy single track line) - images after nightshift with the blackberry - an IM sticker has been strategically placed under the headlight! NVR looks a good one I must get over sometime. Ian
Classsix T
Ha! No-one said blogs suit all tastes, Public Enemy surely don't! As you've probably figured, I don't get to see 60s that often but try to keep my bank balance low at least twice a year chasing them. Doing Pathfinder's next weekend as it happens. Freight Only therefore ticks many boxes for me as it encompasses lines I've either ran on, wanted to run on or tried to get lineside to photo trains. An alternative name therefore might be "Red bit"! C6T.
Crisis Rail
Ballasted up. A step change of direction - decided to go down the Oil Depot - Storage route looking at an EW&S 60 with a nice lengthy rake of green BP TTA. Ripped up the additional siding and in place going for the Scalescene Tanks wrapped around 3 varnish tins - usual Knightwing piping bits etc. I always had the intention of doing an Oil Depot of sorts as a future project but decided to combine as time is now at a premium. Still a decent roundy for a fast growing up 12 year old before the usual teenage distractions kick in! - that's my excuse..... Single track - Freight Only. New images - all very much under construction.

Crisis Rail
Just a single image from a Knightwing session yesterday in a "Rail Buckling" +33 degrees heat in the garage - it was -9 in there last March....! When does plastic start to melt? it was getting close Security fencing and discharge point part assembled and loose fitted for position assessment both literally off the sprue - need flash and trim tidying up before fixing and spraying. I filed the base of the chequerplate / mezzanine walkway flat to drop onto the plasticard and cut away the embankment as it was as usual an afterthought. Centre rail bed mezzanine infill next up then spray ballasting and scenics - haven't the foggiest if this is prototypical but seeing Fort William close up a while back it will pass and hopefully look quite reasonable with an EW&S 60 and a rake of BP TTA. - that's this weeks plan....... HOMEBASE varnish can tanks prepped for Scalescene papers. Ian
