If its anything like 37670 had in ews days its to allow it to fit through a certain tunnel on the harrogate line

Harrogate line is ok for roof mounted horn Class 37's

they were a few modded like that for working Sandite jobs down through Tankersley Tunnel (Barnsley)

from memory there was at least 330, 332, 697, 680 modified as such. they used to work off Healey Mills

Amazingly a pairing still possible and entirely likely 25 years on with both owned by Colas

And following on from my last post it looks like 37057/116 were together yesterday. Rather annoyingly if they were doing this trip tomorrow rather than yesterday I would have seen them as I am going to Worksop:

Both back at Derby RTC this morning.

Can't see anything booked off Derby RTC for tomorrow for Colas except a few WTTs which normally don't run.

3Q05 Derby RTC-Doncaster via Peterborough tonight. Either 37057+37116 or 37175+37219.

They were on it for more years than that. They did it the whole time I was at secondary school in Kendal(86-91) and for years beyond. Would give anything to be able to see and hear that train again as you could here it for a good 10mins before it appeared slowly going past Birds park farm north of Oxenholme starting its climb up Shap!

37025 passing Marshfield earlier today, working another Barry-Barry training run.  Looked great!  More pics in an album on my Flicker: https://flic.kr/s/aHskttV6Am

And a video of it passing Pencoed earlier in the day (apologies the quality is not great - I have had to downsize what was a 90 MB file to get my cranky internet connection to allow it to upload!  https://flic.kr/p/DBGpnG

Just hope Colas keep 37025 in the above livery... :sungum: :locomotive:

I think you'll find there is an agreement between the owners and Colas to ensure it doesn't get "Killed" and retains this preserved condition. I'll try and remember where I found that snippet

EDIT

A statement from our Chairman

All,

As you will be aware, our loco 37025 is now mainline registered.

Whilst we did not anticipate work for it any time soon (given that this is typically a quiet period for charter work) we were approached by Colas to hire it immediately on a short term rolling basis for light duty non-passenger work.

Andy Blakeley (your Operations Director) and I met with Colas representatives and were impressed by both their professionalism and assurances that 37025 would be treated in accordance with its' heritage status. We have also had assurances that the locomotive would be made available for passenger charter work during the hire period, as agreed in advance.

Having given this considerable thought, the directors unanimously agreed to this short term hire as such a hire will be beneficial to all parties concerned, including the locomotive which shall now see some mainline running at a time when it may have been sitting idle.

It is the intention that 37025 will power onto the mainline on Monday 18th January going to Cardiff, times are here http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/…/R90053/2016/01/18/advanced.

Very exciting times indeed!

Kindest Regards,

Steven Ramage
