New Mexico Santa Fe layout

Recommended Posts

That's a tough one.  You could build some mainline modules in secret and then one day they magically appear while your wife is out for a day.  Or you go with the old "since I don't have enough room to run trains, I guess I'll just go down to the bar tonight.  I hope I don't run into my ex girlfriend...."  This maneuver carries some degree of risk so reserve that for a last resort.  Maybe you could couple all the locomotives together and then run them back and forth a few inches, sigh, and say "I've used up the whole layout...."

Good luck!

So, I was having a play with my trains...I mean testing my layout, and I stumbled upon something. First of all, I have made a temporary fiddle yard extension, using the wife's N gauge layout.

And I discovered I could use it as an Inglenook shunting puzzle!

So I took 4 of the 50ft boxcars.

(There is a Norfolk Southern boxcar in the shed)

And did a random draw on pieces of paper.

It's very handy having 4 very different railroads to chose from.

So, here we go:

And there you go. I rushed through the sequence, and it was an easy draw, but it's a start and it increases the play value.

Hope you all enjoyed.

In other news, my Athearn GP38-2 repaint is going well.

Although the blue is the wrong shade. I have found a supplier of Scalecoats for the correct blue, but given the amount of work i have put in so far, i think i will leave this one as it is. Once the decals, weathering and varnish have gone on, it should look ok.

Thanks for looking,

Rob

I wonder if might get away with hand painting something in N Scale after all then. :)

Cheers!

Alternatively, pick roads where the painting is simple:

PRR freight - brunswick green = Tamiya Nato Black rattle can

NS - black = Tamiya Semi-gloss Black rattle can

But yes, you can get away with hand-painting in N. In some cases it is essential since masking can be problematic.

Well done with that painting - especially the yellow, which is usually a notoriously difficult colour to do!!

Talking of 'simple' liveries, the Soo Line's White & Red is fairly straightforward - because that's exactly why it was designed like that in real life - to be easy & quick to apply, but still distinctive.... :) but of course, I'm biased... :D
