I've been scanning old family photos and have found photos of some of my paternal grandfather's cars.  Does anyone know what they are?

Didn't the diesel Mk2 Fiesta introduce new levels of understeer?

The 1.1 petrol ones with 135 tyres would get wayward on dry roads if you went above second gear! God knows where the garage that serviced it before I got it found them.

Took a set of 155 Michelins to get mine to behave.

That is because of the spacing I assume. GIG 1300 would be OK??

Even that is a no go Phil , plate rules here including this ,

The letters not used on UK number plates are the letter I as it looks like the number 1, or the letters O and Q as they can be confused with the number 0. Although there is one exception to this rule, as the letter O is used for Oxford in reference to the memory tag system .

The spacing is illegal but it's a valid registration from Northern Ireland.

I always check the make and year of manufacture or date of first registation on the DVLA website, before adding my caption, so I know that it is valid.

The letter O was not used until the 1950's when many counties were running out of suitable letter combinations so they started using the letter O.  The *OO series was allocated to Essex. Then the year letter  was started in 1962 (But did not include I or O as a year letter). When registrations were introduced in 1903 each registration district was allocated a single letter. The letter S was allocated to Scotland and I was allocated to Ireland, O and Z were not used as single letters.By 1910 some districts were already running out of numbers so two letter registrations were introduced.

A recent change then?

IMG_20240429_202210360_HDR.jpg

A Jam Buttie of the Devon County Constabulary (not sure when it became "Devon & Cornwall").

Probably a VX 4/90 but maybe a Ventora?

TTBOMK, Devon had issued _OD plates since the year dot. Their others were _DV, _TA, _TT, and _UO.

Its a Ventora, the VX 4/90 only had a single vertical bar on the grill.

It was a Dixon of Dock Green episode from the early seventies involving also a six or more wheeled passenger transporter thingy going across a causeway to an island where plod were trying to keep the dolly bird safe. She had other ideas and jumped into a Maxi to get away, hence the chase.

Imagine how gobsmacked I was when this Series 1 1964 Maserati Sebring turned up at a local meet this evening, rare enough to start with but even rarer in RHD...

What's the emoji for, "Oh my God that might only be a car but it is achingly beautiful"?

And the emoji also needs to recognise the wonderful sound that would emanate from that Maserati engine and the exhaust note too.

To be a hairytick, I find that era of Pontiac to be particularly , erm, ugly? [Mid to late 1970's?]

I much prefer the Pontiacs of the mid to late 1960's for beauty of line....So what went 'wrong' in Detroit?
