Control panel for the storage sidings.

The bulk of work today has been connecting up point motors and associated wiring for the storage road control panel, as on my previous layout it will have a single push button on each siding and when pressed will set the entire route via a diode matrix, hopefully making it idiot proof!

I also installed a second camera for the storage roads and am now ready to connect it all up when i've decided where the monitor will go.

Cheers

Graham.

Hello all,

No work as such this evening just playing with some new toys, first up a new 33 from Heljan, i was undecided about getting one but as models sell out fairly quickly these days i thought better get one now rather than loose out.

Also picked up another Hornby 60 on ebay, I've been after a Mainline grey one for quite a while and after several missed lots this one has a new home on Aylestone, these are fast become a favourite loco in both N and 00, there haulage capability is fantastic and with both my layouts featuring quite steep gradients they haul almost every train i want to run with ease.

Hello all,

Well i'm another 6 feet further forward, had a few hours today to fit the track etc and also put in the last hidden crossover, with this in place i can use the freight centre road to access the hidden sidings whilst not disturbing passenger trains sitting in the Up platform.

I also fitted a lima 73 with a Howes sound chip, when i first fired it up it nearly blew my ears off, very loud for a small speaker! I played around with the sound volume but still not 100% happy, i think i may need to change the speaker perhaps a bass reflex? sounds good though!

Also had a visiting engine today which worked a small engineers train.

Hello all,

Small update, I haven't had much time to do anything with the layout due to working seven days a week, today though i had a few hours to spare and decided to try and film the layout using my N gauge Branor systems Camtruck, Its a great piece of kit which i should use more often, i put the N gauge wagon onto a Hornby Clam and heres the result.

Its 5 mins long and the start is rather bright so you may need sunglasses!

Cheers

Hello all,

Its been a quiet few weeks on the layout front, I've managed a couple of hours here and there but today i had all the time i wanted.

First up i finished off the latest part of incline towards the top level, in fact this piece now gets me to the tunnel mouth that starts the scenic section, i added some side protection boards then spent a while adding track feeds and fitting hex frog juicers to the crossover.

It would have been rude not to have tested it so i used one of my latest acquisitions, namely a Hornby 56. This is my first 56 and i'm extremely impressed, Its haulage capability is great and nearly if not the same as the Hornby 60's. Whilst having a run of a few loco's i used the 56 on the heaviest test train i'v got, I'm using a rake of 12 seacows plus a shark brake van, the wagons are all loaded with lose ballast and weigh on average 80 grams, with this plus the shark the train weighs just over a 1KG  and is excellent for testing trackwork/loco haulage, so far the 56 and 60 can take a 1 in 32 gradient no problem.

A surprise easter addition was another Heljan crompton from my parents, very pleased with this!

And lastly i bought a Bachmann STVA car carrier from a felow RmWebber, I've always liked these wagons since they came out, now i've got this one a rake is definitely on the cards.

I'm now working towards getting the circuit completed, the mainlines are about 60% done and getting ever closer.

Cheers

Hi Graham,

Always nice to see an update on this layout. I love the way your track plans are designed to confuse me! :jester:

I'm pretty sure I've got one of those STVA's on my list of wants. I think I've seen a picture somewhere of a set at Eastleigh works..

Keep up the good work.

Cheers Scott,

Your not the first person to say that, hopefully all will be revealed soon when i get the circuit complete, the railway room resembles a building site at the moment.

Can't recommend the STVA highly enough, really beautiful model!

Hello all,

Managed another few hours work on the layout today, Even though i have a lot of wiring to do i keep putting it off and decided to cut some more trackbed for the top scenic level instead, I cut about half of it for dry fitting then thought i might as well do all of it as i'm here, once it was all roughly in place i laid some track over it to give me a temporary circuit, It was really nice to set a train running then leave it to its own devices, like i said its only temporary but i have had a few good hours of watching the trains go by.

A general view of the chaos.

Little video to prove it all worked.

Cheers

Hi Neil,

No great progress at the moment, I've been waiting for some electrical bits to turn up which funnily enough arrived this morning, The Railway room is a bit chaotic at present so what little time i've had has been spent sorting stuff out and clearing space.

There has been an addition to the railway room but it seems to be the wrong scale?

This beauty is for a long term 7mm project.

Hopefully more to update soon.

Hello all,

Progress on the layout has been at a snails pace of late but i've started working on the depot area and i have a question to throw out.

I've got a couple of thoughts for the depot, one a single road shed at the rear and some hardstanding over the next track, the second would have a two road shed similar to Hither green and the back road would have a carriage/loco wash, I'm just playing around with idea's at the moment and would welcome anyones views.
