Has Christmas come early?  :-clap

The big Heljan 60's have arrived. And superb they are too, bar the odd livery issue.

I'm not too impressed with the revised packaging, quite a few people are reporting damage upon delivery. I have been lucky, other than the cabfront black marks. This is the reason...the black  rubber pads are rubbing and leaving a sticky black residue. Thankfully easily removed with a little white spirit. Might be an idea to wrap the loco ends in tissue paper to prevent this Mr Heljan?

Love the first photo Lee, that must look great the five triple grey ones together. From the photos they really do look great models.

A model of Leicester depot with a few construction examples would make a nice layout, although it would require a lot of space!

Hi all,

As promised the photos.

post-11695-0-38365400-1448196683.jpg

60071 'Ribblehead Viaduct' before weathering. I've resprayed the grilles and beneath the exhaust silencer black. Then matt varnished over the top of the transfers and the whole body shell.

post-11695-0-11831900-1448196709.jpg

My etched nameplates fitted to the bodyside.

60074 in powder blue. This was a Loadhaul loco because it had black grilles, so no need to repaint them. This model also had the light cluster fitting at one end factory finished upside down (must have been a Friday afternoon!!) so that was corrected before priming in white.

60074 bodyside. This is a very large and impressive model. In blue it looks even larger!!

Regards

Vin

Fair enough. I may treat myself when they come out. How much are they due to be?

What livery are you doing yours?

If the price stays in line with their other kits either £440 or £450, the DJH kit is currently £ 463.50 with a price increase in January and from moulds that are starting to wear.

As for my choice, its going to be a tough what to do, 47334 in Freightliner,47712 in Fragonset or 47772 in RES, decisions decisions!

Ooooooops, I appear to have put a Heljan triple grey class 60 on my Christmas list and Mrs Grimley has sent it off to Father Christmas!

Get in! Now to decide on which one to number it when it arrives, Metals 037 is my favourite 60.

Cannot wait to see it on Christmas morning.....

Thanks class59arc, I model in 4mm so this is my first 7mm loco, I just couldn't resist. The Brush Beasts are my favourite and after seeing all the photos, well I just had to!

Now to plan some sort of small layout to run it on!

You know where this is going to end Grimleygrid, you had better start selling the 4mm stock now !!!

Cheers, Bob.

Is there any major issue livery wise with the EWS loco? The Loadhaul was my first choice for a first O Gauge loco but EWS is a close second.

Yes - can somebody please please please find some overwhelming error with the EWS one, so that I stop feeling so bad about not being able to afford one?? :O :nono: ;) :jester:

Lol. I'm foregoing a few OO gauge locos in order to buy one of these 60's. The prototype is such a powerful beast I couldn't resist.

It's a later style repaint with yellow light clusters so should really have maroon cabside window frames. Dunno if that's a big enough excuse not to ;-p

I really would like a shelf ornament but as others have said 500 notes is a lot for an ornament. Now if retailers churn out the Loadhaul ones cheap...

Thanks Jo. Having not even noticed that, I can probably live with something that small lol. Hopefully the Loadhaul ones are sold off cheap.

Indeed. I have the book "Coming up with the Goods", an insight into UK Rail freight operations in the late 1990's, & one thing that comes across is the high regard Class 60s were held in by crews, far more so than the Class 66s. As EWS was owned by Wisconsin Central, where the livery came from (and inspired in turn by the original Soo Line livery ;) ) I always quite liked the EWS livery, which is why I'd like this loco.

However O scale does tend to curtail Impulse Shopping for those of us not quite so flush; yes I might've saved up (like I did for a 31) but other items more pertinent to my interests have had to take precedent.

I'll just admire everyone else's 60s instead. ;)
