brian daniels
Bit of an outsize load in Didcot Yard this afternoon, Iron Duke on it's way from the Tip Sidings to the GWS. It's a little bit tall so it a good job they did this before the wires went up!
JeffP
And very nice too, thanks for sharing Brian.
RJS1977
Where did the wagons come from? I was of the understanding that the reason ID had been stuck in Gloucestershire for so long was because no suitable wagons could be found for the shunt move. Though if ID does ever need to leave Didcot post-electrification, perhaps a Warwell or similar could be used to lower it.
Bon Accord
They're MOD warflats, perhaps appropriated from Marchwood?
AberdeenBill
Nice pictures Brian, thanks for posting. I like the rugged simplicity of the back-plate of the firebox: coal hole, regulator and that's it... ;-) Bill
RJS1977
Not too sure about the exhaust arrangement on the 08 in the top picture though....

eastwestdivide
For the wagon spotters, the one behind the warflats is an interesting one too, mentioned in this thread: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/51468-taunton-concrete-works-zcv-wagons/ and belonging to the Didcot centre: http://www.didcotrailwaycentre.org.uk/wagons/100682/100682.html of 1939 vintage apparently. D1059
What goes around, comes around...........................I saw ID arrive at the GWS by rail in 1986 http://www.flickr.com/photos/48175753@N03/10521502604/in/photolist-h2Ksaj I'm pleasantly surprised such a load was shifted by rail in this day and age when the economics dictate (for example) that its cheaper to send fuel to Long Rock depot in Penzance by road

D1059
Ironically, as it's broad gauge, it's probably too wide for road transport, but fine for 4'81/2" Indeed !! Also, I presume Didcot GWS still has no road access for large vehicles ?

Kev_Lewis
Great photo's Brian. When I visited the GWSR in May last year there wasn't much chance of me forgetting where I'd parked the car. It's behind the Duke!
