RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted December 15, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 15, 2013 This is a awesome video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cs2NPFkR8Xw#t=2 Not sure if not has been seen elsewhere on here - if you haven't seen it well worth a look Just look at the way the platform crowd rebounds away instinctively. Pointwork at the north end a bit rough though! Mr Jauncey is a master of the video art for sure Cheers Phil
mswjr
Nice Phil,Some fast steam nice to see,Bouncy too, If that was one of my models i would be worried it would derail, Garry
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted December 15, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 15, 2013 Pointwork at the north end a bit rough though! In those days there was a facing connection to the up slow and a crossover between the up / down fast immediately after. The crossover has since been removed. RMweb Premium melmerby Posted December 20, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 20, 2013 Reminds me of watching them in the 50s and early 60s as they were travelling towards Birmingham on the down main and crossing the pointwork at Tyseley - equally bouncy! Keith EDIT: can't remember Castles or other locos bucking about quite so much
coachmann
Driven as if it were charging Werneth Incline! That footage made me worry.
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted December 20, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 20, 2013 It was KIngs that did the rock and roll around bends and over pointwork. I used to see them going west (towards Plymouth) past Laira. The front end was swaying like a Cobra. Sadly I never knowingly saw any other region's big engines going at speed, except for a couple of night-time views, well glances really, of Merchants thundering trough Pokesdown Station round about 1966 and that was at platform level. RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted December 21, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 21, 2013 Thanks to this post (and I really mean thanks) I have spent most of last night looking at vids of steam roaring about the countryside (and abroad.....). Bl**dy wonderful stuff in the main, especially PSOV (no connection).P
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted December 21, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 21, 2013 Welcome! Theres some d*mn good stuff on there no doubt - and although I model diesels it doesn't mean I don't enjoy other aspects too One of my favourites was a very clever steam vid on youtube set to the tune Aces High - opening theme from the Battle of Britain film. Win win for me but cant find it now Preservation is sometimes viewed as being ersatz but delivering performances like this - no way! Deserves as much support as we can give. RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted December 21, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 21, 2013 Not limited to steam either! We now have dcc sound - bring on the smoke generators that give these effects hee hee Phil
County of Yorkshire
And to think the King's used to race members of the poor little 14xx class along certain parts of the Western network!
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted January 5, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 5, 2014 That video of the King was plainly not a one off http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6060/6266113190_bcddac4deb.jpg PSOV's excellent overlay of cab and lineside shots gives an additional dimension Phil
robmcg
I love the bit at 1.01 where a mother rushes her child away from the scene just as the whistle sounds, and I think there's a child in the same area jumping with pleasure just as the engine passes the camera...
