I think it helps not having the chimney so close to the ceiling. The buildings look quite at home.

I agree, the first way round the chimney is almost pointing out for everyone the awkward join between walls & ceiling!! 🤦‍♂️🙄

And yes, Bob's buildings have fitted in really well & I'm very grateful of his generosity. 👍

Very tempted to say yes please but my wife would hit the roof if I got anything else for my layout which has not had any work done for the last two years! My problem is that I hate wiring a layout but if I don't do the wiring I can't do my favourite bit of running trains. I hope you find a good home for them.

The American loco crew figures are the first two sets on this page: https://westedge3d.com.au/shop/ (American Loco Crew 1 and American Loco Crew 2.)

Click on one, and you'll find a drop-down menu showing all the readily available scales and the relevant price for the chosen scale. Postage options are shown in the checkout.

We can also print in any custom scale, like 1:24 or 1:64 - we're jolly helpful and flexible chaps. 😀

Apologies for the delay - have now placed my order for these figures. Looking forward to receiving them.

Not much else to report layout-wise, but thanks to Sir Bob Northroader the Portway Terminal now owns a nice selection of Heritage cabooses representing the most common variations. 😁👍

The red one is my Weaver caboose that is in the middle of a repaint that, so far, hasn't gone very well 🙄😳🤯

What's the matter with your Weaver caboose? Can we help you?

I used Tamiya flat red acrylic, brushed on. Seems a very thin pigment that dried very streaky & patchy. Also the colour match to the Weaver red wasn't as close as a first test patch had indicated.

Looks like I'll have to go with an all-over rattle can blast..... some time....

Oh gosh.

For O scale I use spray cans. It works well. But I need a specific temperature 19 to 23 °C.

The problem is to find the exact colour we need...

One job I just couldn't leave too long. The factory name here is a very long & clever pun name, but slightly too excruciating for my tastes....

So now it has a more local - and totally boring - company name that still focuses on lumber products. I have been assured by friends who should know that there is a difference between a Carpenter & a Joiner, so the distinction here is plausible.

Of course as is the usual way with the Portway Terminal, they couldn't make the new sign exactly the right size 🙄🤦‍♂️ so it's a bit too short and the edges of the original sign still show.... 😳

Puns seem to be required on American models, must get to work cooking up some more for when we move.

You're right, I think it's the law. Speaking of which I have mentioned before that Portway's local law enforcer is Sheriff Lou Scannon....

I also pinched the wording here from famous modeller Chuck Yungkurth, although his sign was for his layout's coal depot....

I also like a bit of humour, especially if it tells a story.

...and the knocked-over "Portway welcomes careful drivers" raised a lot of smiles & comments at the Shows I took my old Portway Terminal layout to.

I liked the one 'If it is a good chair it's a Miracle'.

Over here we had to put up with Cyril Freezer's bad puns. I do remember an 0 gauge layout with the works S. A. Tanic Mills  on it. and one I find really delightful with victorian overtones.   'Seldom Rarely Works' on Dudly Hubbards garden line

Received my order of WestEdge3D colour printed figures yesterday - pretty quick shipping from Down Under & the package slipped through the VAT net too!! 🥳

First chance of a play tonight and they are cracking figures. Most of them can free stand without glue or anything as well.

I think I've mixed the sets up already, but I got the Loco crews #1 & #2, and some Standing Figures....

I can see there's going to be some great opportunities for setting up 'cameo' shots.

Here the morning crew swap over with the graveyard shift on the Portway Terminal - I didn't realise the PYTL ran more than one shift - must be the busy season!!

The total cost including AUS - GB postage works out at about £7:65 per figure. I'd say that's very good value indeed, especially as they come fully coloured.

Happy bunny, and many thanks to Lindsay a.k.a. @ixionmodels  👍👍👍

Have been having more play time with the WestEdge3D figures. 👍😁

A Class 1 crew change this time....

Railroad crews live by a similar mantra to the Military - "Hurry up and wait!!"

A couple of M.O.W. crew kill time by their road transport....

I really like the 'non-action', hanging around, hands in pockets poses of these figures!

Very often it's figures that kill the realism of a model photo - now, these figures are the most realistic items on my layout!!!  😳😳🤣

Edit:- my sincere apologies for using freight cars with unpainted wheels!! Only just noticed, looking back at the photos!! D'oh!! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

“Jack was here” - nice touch, (we should all have a Shortliner tribute somewhere), Keith.

Actually I bought that boxcar a few years ago at Telford Guildex, already weathered, loaded & graffited, so really it's just a coincidence it says 'Jack was here' - but yes very fitting. I did name one of my Plymouths in Jack's memory, of course.

Cue gratuitous reminder photo.... 😁👍

There's no doubt that 3D printing is a game-changer for model railways, especially for detail items.

The Portway Terminal management have been indulging in a bit of retail therapy. Conveniently ignoring the fact these are all 1:43 scale rather than 1:48th, here's a few recent ebay purchases....

20230728_211052.jpg.b5bf539da19d90c33a1fb2514017172a.jpg

Pallet trucks from West Hill Wagon Works. Possibly by chance, the translucent resin accurately depicts the nylon tyres these are often fitted with - I will try & mask them before painting.

20230728_211242.jpg.22fa1350cd397558745b6237f02fd9db.jpg

Sacks & pallets from WPD Miniatures. The sacks are very 'stepped' in the printing layers, but a bit of filing will help (or thick paint!! 😳😁).

20230728_211524.jpg.3a4923e9dc3cdd18c21f20f3e331a609.jpg

IBC (Intermediate Bulk Container) from Bunters Yard. These come fully finished, with (admittedly random) hazchem data stickers, and a choice of tank cap colours. They help identify my "C&S Chemicals" building as a chemicals distributor even without a company sign! Using corrugated card on foamboard hasn't really worked, though, & I now regard this building as a mock-up, pending something better.

You can replace "mock" with alternative words in your own time.... 🙄🤦‍♂️😝😂

Anyone else suffer from this affliction...?

Something like this:-

FB_IMG_1690406729425.jpg.dd8b9962724e48e7f48b73f2620e3b51.jpg

Thus, another "beauty" showed up on Ebay a few days ago, & much to my surprise, my "much lower Best Offer than the Buy it Now" price was accepted.

Yes it depicts a complete Soo rust bucket, which although hardly reflecting the Glory Days, is typical of how these cars ended up, and the weathering is sublime!! It also fits my 'post-2000' Short Line time frame.

There's one door locking bar missing on one side, but no big issue. Resistance was, indeed, completely futile..... 🙄🤣😉
