Guest 40-something

Hi Folks

A question on 33's, I know a couple of 33's ran in green FYE as in D6570, but did any run with just the front panel in yellow with the cabside windows in original white livery (as shown on this 27)

Thanks in advance

Are you sure that second picture is Didcot? Looks more like Thatcham to me, and the train would be 6V96, the Tonbridge to Meldon Quarry ballast empties which ran via the Berks & Hants.

A nice train to model note the 3 different shades of Dutch livery on the wagons.

33025 with 3 Dutch wagons in tow looks to be concrete sleepers   they look to short to be sleepers look to be banded together with steel bands perhaps they are concrete trunking as below?

Formation looks to be Class 33, OCA, ZDA, ZDA   is this right ?????

Cheers

Steve

The OCA could also be a ZDA. The original wagon types are OCA (steel sides) and 2 x OBA (wood sides), and at I think some OCA also carried ZDA when in the engineers' fleet.

Also, does the load look more like concrete cable trunking or something like that?

Both the OBA and OCA were coded ZDA when in Departmental use. They also had the same Fishknd name- Bass. Some OCAs had gone over to departmental use within about a year of their introduction.

The following day I was at Colthrop Crossing where 33110 and 33114 had an easy job with just 5 sealions on 6V96, the Tonbridge to Meldon Quarry ballast empties...

Evening all,

Having recently purchased a scanner, here are a few from me.  All were taken at Salisbury, my old stomping ground,  during the summer of either '83 or '84 as I recall, though I stand to be corrected - ie immediately after I left school but before I went away to college, beer and all the other usual distractions: sorry that I cannot be more precise about the dates!  Funny how you much things have changed but you don't notice at the time.  Happy days!

I will post some of the other images in more appropriate threads, but hope these will be of interest.

Best wishes,

Paul

Eastwestdivide,

thanks for the gen re the double Cromptons on the ARC turn: that does ring a bell - its lovely to be able to fill in some of the blanks.

Found another couple of images from the same batch: quality is not brilliant, but they are still Cromptons, hard at work!

Best wishes,

Paul
