I posted these photos in a model thread but it was suggested that I post them here. These were taken at Havant and Fareham in the late 1970s. The single loco is on the Brighton- Bristol and the double header is on the Brighton Exeter.

Not sure how, but I've not spotted this excellent thread before.

Since it starts with Swanage locos, can I ask a question?

We rode behind one about a month ago, while camping down that way, and I thought it didn't sound like they did "back in the day".

Has something been done to them that alters the exhaust note, making it less gravelly, and removes the deep sigh before starting a train away?

I spent far too long iñ the company of these locos, commuting home on the Uckfield line, nights as 'engineer in charge' of trains during possessions, even went to Cornwall and back on an excellent excursion with one as each end of a pair of 4-TC with a wired buffet in between.

I take it this headboard was in tribute to Dave Axton?

I only found out he had died a few days ago. A real shame as he was a cracking bloke ,had the pleasure of spending a few weeks working with him on the high Marnham test track about four years ago

Obviously no class 33 action over the last year or so!

33207 acting as Thunderbird at Euston - 30 September 2017

That would be the ECS loco for The Cumbrian Coast Express as 86259 can't get the stock to and from Southall.

Ah, okay. The last time I was at Euston there was a WCR loco (class 37) stabled in the same place - I assumed that this was a Thunderbird of some sort.
