RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted November 18, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 18, 2016 Well I started this thread with a pic of an n gauge 08 and last night I did something I might regret and got myself a Dapol 08, well I've always said I wanted to weather something 7mm! So that'll be something I can't wait to make a start on, suppose I'll have to start a 7mm thread, having said that I seem to have more threads than a dress maker!! I'll post some pics as soon as it arrives. Cheers
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted November 29, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 29, 2016 As most of you will know I've took the leap up to 7mm so if anyone is interested in any of the locos I've weathered on this thread please let me know and I'll let you know. Some BIG stuff coming up soon Cheers
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted April 11, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 11, 2017 It's been a while but hopefully I nice run of weathering to come over the next few weeks, starting with two nights on the run! Last night I gave the wheels two coats of frame dirt. Big Sam didn't look to impressed Then the first layer of grime tonight on the bogie side frames Only anther 5 layers to go an a nice distraction from the frustration of the las couple of weeks. RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted April 12, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 12, 2017 Back in your comfort zone Paul? good to see.... Phil Thanks Phil, ish I've got three loco to now number, now I've never used water slide transferes in my life and then it's the bodies to weather, which will be a whole new ball game compared to the 08's I excitedly nervous shall we say Thanks again
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted April 12, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 12, 2017 Water slides no problem....just remember to put them on to a gloss surface and then varnish over them with gloss before applying any other finish - carrier film will disappear Have fun! RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted April 14, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 14, 2017 Five layers of grime and a little test run, must admit it looks far better than I thought. Cheers
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted April 15, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 15, 2017 A quick dry blast with the airbrush to remove any loose powder and the tanks and bogie sides were refitted. Really happy with how it's turning out. A couple of natural light shots And a couple under the floodlight I'll probably tackle the bogies and tanks on the blue 37 next then I'll add numbers and weather the bodies of both 37's and the 40. Cheers
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted April 24, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 24, 2017 I started on the blue 37's the other night, the wheels were painted in usual manner then the bogies where given a coat of weathered black. Tonight I've added a second coat then added the first layer of powders whilst still wet. These will be darker than the green 37's bogies with a bit more grease an oil spill. Cheers
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted April 26, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 26, 2017 Last nights weathering efforts and a bit of early morning weathering with sun rising natural light. This 37 seems that be having or had an oil leak! Thus needed to be toned down so... This mornings touch ups Cheers
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted May 3, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 3, 2017 Apart from planning and research for the layout I've finished the weathering on the chassis of the blue 37, there will need to be a few touch ups and silver adding to the footsteps but pretty pleased with how it's turning out. This one is a lot more oiled up than the previous one so has obviously suffered some kind of oil leak or something recently. I've also numbered D6921 using rub on transfers from Railtec I'll add the arrows hopefully tonight then the next job will be to remove the body and start weathering. Cheers
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted May 4, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 4, 2017 D6921 all ready for weathering, finally got the courage up to try my hand at Railtecs water slide arrows, so considering I've never done it before I'm pretty pleased. D270 has also had its numbers added now so that's ready for weathering also. Cheers
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted May 4, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 4, 2017 Well just spotted the mistake I've used early font instead of late font!! Thought the numbers looked to small, new ones on the way Cheers

RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted May 12, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 12, 2017 Paul Can you explain what you done to get to this point please. Jim Afternoon Jim no probs, it's not something I usually do as I normally dive straight in with powders but for this 37 I've have the whole body a light spray of Railmatch roof dirt straight out of an aerosol which I've stood in warm water for five minutes. When removing the first layer of grime, either paint like this or powders sealed using matt varnish, I remove them using a fibre/scratch pen but I really hate the fine fibres that fall off and if you get them in your hand you'll know about it (always wear gloves ) but on this I've tried a new approach using small wire brush heads from a dremmel and they work just as good without the fibres getting everywhere. I just brush the body with downward strokes replicating how rain would wash the dirt away until I get the desired look. I'll keep repeating this process with various powders etc. Hope that helps Jim, cheers
