Well I've managed to just spend an hour on the 85, I've a touched up the bogies with a bit of roof dirt and black powder, I think this gives a better look to the bogies on the 85, and I've done the same to the under frame and the buffer beams, with a bit of gloss varnish on the buffers themselves. I've also tidied up a bit of the frame dirt on the body to represent where it would be rubbed off through the ware and tare of the crew climbing in and out of the doors etc, but I'm not to sure on this at the moment. Still a lot to touch up on the body and windows to clean etc.

A couple of shots of the bogies

Looks good to me Paul.

Cheers, Bob.

Thanks Bob

I wasn't to keen on the body though so in the last 30 min I've give it a clean for a less dirty look, once I'm happier with it I'll post some pics.

Thanks again, Paul

Evening all, like I mentioned earlier I wasn't happy with the look of the body so I've tidied it up, cleaned the windows and sealed the bogie sides, under frame and buffer beams with matt varnish. The body isn't screwed back together yet but I'm really pleaed with how it looks, although due to the upload quality the photos don't really do it justice (I'm not just saying that honest!!!!)

I can see I Biffo sound chip coming!!

Cheers, Paul

Hi Paul..

Your 85 looks a lot less dusty! To my eye it looks more realistic now. I do like the way you have captured the build up of grime under the crest.

The bogies/ chassis area looks very good too..you have that area down to a tee!! On some of your earlier photos you can see the wheels.. on the wheel is that the brake disc? If so, for added detail may be a dash of silver on the disc?

Just a small criticism, I would have as little as possible weathering on the front of the loco but each to their own.

Would you use the Airbrush to do any future weathering?

Cheers

IIRC 85s have clasp brakes on to the wheel rims so Paul has the wheels correctly dirtied - no discs.

Its the final drive linkage that Bachmann have portrayed on the wheels. Done a good job to.

Thanks guys

Sorry for late reply, been a busy weekend! Steve I just used an old paint brush that had gone hard (I'd been to lazy to clean an wash the paint off it) an just slowly scrapped the paint off the windows, I've used this a few times now as it's hard enough to remove the paint but not scratch the glazing :)

As for using the airbrush again, I don't know I enjoyed using it but I'm more at home using the powders I think :)

Thanks again for the comments

Had a few minutes free so using Stevens advice I've cleaned up the front of the 85 and took a few pics in natural light, something I don't get to do much. The 85's finished apart from the sound chip.

Next up is an n gauge 108 lightly weathered, Barnsley Central is in need of a few DMU's so I need to get my finger out!!

Apologise if the pics below are similar to previous shots, just that there in natural light, hope you like them.

Cheers, Paul

Thanks Bob as always :)

The natural light really does make a big difference. Hopefully I'll get a start done on the 108 for Brian in the next week but the wedding is only a little over two weeks off so there mightn't be many updates for a couple of weeks so I'll apologise now!! But when I'm back I'm going to make a point of getting through the many things I've got planned for this thread, also the layout to, that's been neglected for far to long to.

Thanks again, Paul

Evening all

Didn't think if get time to start this before the big day but thankfully I had a spare couple if hours so I've made a start on Barnsley Central''s egally awaited 108!!

This was the first train I bought when returning to the hobby some 20 years later, I have to admit for an n gauge model the detail is stunning, so I'll have to do it justice.

Couple of before and after pics below, still lots to be done but at least I've made a start, sorry there not the best.

Cheers, Paul

Nice model Paul - Looking forward to following this - Good luck with the big day.

Cheers, Bob.

Thanks Bob

Five days to go :) can't wait!!

I'll have to start going into more detail in this thread as I've gone a bit laid back so I do apologise, looking at the sun on the 108 reminds me of being a kids and seeing the sun shine down on them through the cuttings on the approach to Lime Street, great memories.

Thanks again Bob
