So then...an update! :)

Not much has happened recently, but I've finished the lights. I made another tower in much the same way as the previous one. Then tonight I have added 2 1K resistors and connected the ends to a 2 pin plug. I've also added a plasticard base. Then I wired the female plugs to the bus and switch, and they worked first time! :music:

These are in a pitch black room, and a surprising amount of light is produced!

And a (very blurry) overhead shot, showing the spread of light from the towers...

That's all for now! :senile:

Thanks,

Evening,

I might not be able to post anything until into the new year, so I'd like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has liked, commented, offered help and suggestions, or just casually observed this thread over the past 10 months, and wish you and your family a very merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Not much has been done recently because of the cold weather, but once I spray the track I can progress.

I have been building a portakabin over Crimbo, so here's the results....

One end will be open so you can see the detail inside.

The details aren't stuck down yet because I'll need to paint the floor. In position....

Ive not cleaned the track yet, I'll wait until it's had a day to dry, and the unpainted bits on the points I'll do by hand soon. Next I can add the concrete hard standing, spray that concrete and then ballast and scenery :senile:

Cheerio!

Next I can add the concrete hard standing

Today I've been doing this using double thickness offcuts of mounting card donated by Dad, using wood glue and track pins...

The thinner piece in the foreground will be a strip of concrete to walk on.

That's all for now! ;)

Evening,

Just another update to show I've finished the hardstanding with the card, next will be to fill the big gaps with filler and stick paper over the smaller ones.

A couple of piccies to show the progress...

Evening guys and gals..... ;)

There hasn't been an update for a while because of school, but since I'm on holiday I should get something done...in theory!

Last weekend I (finally) built a fiddle yard for the board, so I can actually run trains in and out of the yard once I've ballasted and cleaned the track. The new board sits next to the existing one, and for transportation goes over the scenic board.

It is constructed from 5.5mm ply with 2 ply sides and 2 softwood framed sides with a central softwood brace going diagonally. It will be secured to the scenic board both when in operation and in transportation/storage by 10mm coach bolts.

Hopefully the pictures can explain better!

That's it for the time being, I may put the bolts in soon and then either make some cassettes or lay some track.

Happy modelling!

Jack.

Really nice compact layout there Jack and some superb modelling. Especially that Portakabin, that really is the Bees Knees.

Sorry I haven't looked in before. I shall definitely be following now.

Cheers

Marcus

Cheers Marcus, the portakabin still isn't finished, so I need to get a move on!

I need to get some ballast down too I think, just need to source some I'm happy with.

An update! :O

Ballasting has begun!

After putting it off for ages I have succumbed to the (laborious and bland...usually!) task. I've been spurred on by a post by Pete75c on his 'West Croydon' layout thread, and have therein discovered a new (to me!) method that has made it much quicker, less boring and somewhat enjoyable! :nono:

http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/80480-ballasting-without-tears%E2%80%A6on-thin-sleeper-track/

A small section of the front siding has been done first, it took me about 30 mins but I was getting faster at it.

So a couple of pictures from new, plausible photo locations.

First a view of the new ballast:

post-21664-0-94529200-1431280924_thumb.jpg

On my visit there was 20308 and a short train of tankers offloading:

post-21664-0-46504200-1431280981_thumb.jpg

(I've not decided whether there will be an 'underground' storage tank or a surface one, any ideas?)

It then ran out of the yard and backed on to the train.

post-21664-0-04090600-1431280989_thumb.jpg

It left for a considerable amount of time as there were many workings on the main line, but returned with the tanks in the holding sidings...

post-21664-0-14216000-1431281002_thumb.jpg

Then went to fuel up itself!

Lol!

Hope you enjoy!

Nice to see you making a start again Jack. Have to agree with you about the ballasting. unfortunately its a necessary evil. I do like you're Class 20/3 conversion, very smart.

Cheers

Marcus

Looking realy good now my mate... :senile:

Cheers Marcus and Neil! :)

After a night to harden properly the ballast has now sunk properly and looks much tidier.

Thanks,

Jack.

Couple more pics today.

I've made a hardstanding area on the corner of the board which will have the car park and portakabin on top. I've also ballasted a little further on, this ballasting lark is quite therapeutic after a hard school day!...

And finally I couldn't resist a pic of my favourite (only) whistling wardrobe:

Happy modelling! :D
