Jack374
Thanks George...regards projects....Fordley is ongoing, but after that I'm thinking a new project like BS, but electrified and a bit longer. We'll see, I've got GCSEs to get out of the way first! Jack.

Jack374
Any new DRS locos Jack??No, none to report at the mo. I've done s0d all modelling since the start of the school term...I'm either too overloaded with homework or too tired to do anything but sleep! Progress will definitely be slow from now on. Jack. Jack374
Cheers Neil, I'll definitely get there eventually! Here's a couple of photos of the yard as I was taking shots of 37259, nothing has been done since the last progress update, but soon I'll finish the ballasting for good (yeah!) and then can focus on other bits. Finally, I've got a coach for sale! The model is of 975280 that ran with the old SGT, the one with the funny black wagon in the middle. I bought it but have lost interest in modelling the train as it doesn't run now. The coach is Model Rail Ltd. Ed. 39-225Z produced for Kernow MRC. It is in excellent condition and has only been run twice, and I've kept the original paperwork, detail pack and tissue paper sleeve. £45 posted. Please PM me if you've any questions or you want more pictures... Keep on modding! Jack.
Jack374
Hi all, Many thanks for sticking with this even though progress has been intermittent to say the least! Just thought I'd post a couple of pictures of some recent workbench projects on shed to show where the layout is up to today: More details can be found in my WB thread (signature) if you're interested. Thanks, Jack.
Jack374
Evening... After being an EWS depot for many days the yard has been reclaimed by DRS now. It was this: But now will look more like this. Note my new loco, 57309 in DRS colours in the foreground... A milestone was reached today with the full completion of ballasting. This has been done because I need to crack on with my two layouts really and this layout is now in my bedroom following the removal of my drum kit after grade 8... Last bit of ballast: And as well as the 57, which has now been fully detailed, on my workbench thread (signature) you can see how the NR genny van was created, seen posed here with a suitable 37: Many thanks for sticking with this, it's much appreciated! Thanks, Jack.

Jack374
Thanks very much Rob. The track is SMP with hand built turnouts, sprayed with Railmatch 'track dirt'. Thanks, Jack.
Jack374
Hi all, I'd like to thank each and every one of you who have viewed, replied, rated and followed the layout throughout 2015. Have yourselves an excellent festive break, and I hope Santa brings those railway goodies you've wished for! Cheers all! Thanks, Jack. Here's some snowy pics of a couple of 57s on the layout...I wish!
Jack374
Evening... Well the woodworking still isn't finished so I'll not post a full update yet, but I've re glued and painted the fuel point canopy, and it's now ready for installation when I can get round to it... Next is to paint the hardstanding and other bits, then finish the woodworking and it'll be nearly there! Happy modelling! Jack.
Jack374
Evening... Here's where the layout stands (literally) today...well...it did for about 10 minutes until I was ordered to move it! The legs are either 2x1 or 2x2 softwood and are rather sturdy despite them being made of odds and ends of wood from the garage. They are held together with 10mm coach bolts, and I'm quite pleased with it all! Hopefully I'll finish the scenic bits someday! Happy modelling! Jack374
Hi Jack! Did the carriage end up selling? It did, but thanks for your interest! Well...it's been far too long since an update, but not much has happened if I'm honest. I've just started constructing a new bridge made of plasticard, with embossed stone sheets and thicker plasticard for the road bed. It will be more stable, and after trialling printed brick sheets, I'm not too keen on them. I first weathered the stone parts by painting them acrylic black and then rubbing the paint off after leaving it for a few minutes to semi dry. This leaves black in all the recesses and, with more weathering, should provide a pleasing effect. I've glued the wall support parts together with some wood for strength, and have just begun to glue the corner stones on (small bits of plasticard). This part is deliberately more black on one side to disguise the fiddleyard entrance... And whilst I had a few items of stock out for packing to go to this weekend's Blackburn exhibition (where I'll be operating with Mick Bryan on his layout 'Deadman's Lane'), I couldn't resist some photos, including recently varnished 37409: Keep modelling! Jack374
To those who have followed, commented, liked or viewed this thread during 2016, I'd like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and best wishes for the new year. Posed on my layout 'Tight End Yard' are 37409 'Lord Hinton', 66407 and the two MK2a escort coaches. More details of how these were done can be found in my workbench thread (link in signature). The layout is progressing very slowly but we're getting there! Happy Christmas! Jack.
Jack374
Well, the last pic I posted alerted me to the awful state of the buffers on the depot, so today I soldered up some replacements or fixed the existing ones, using bullhead rail. These were then glued in place and painted to represent those at Crewe Gresty Bridge. Just a word of warning, don't try and solder a lump of superglue...I don't know what the fumes were but they certainly weren't pleasant! Ta for now, Jack.

Jack374
Anything New Jack? I've not got any progress to show Ollie, although I'm musing over (well, I've already decided) to cut the bridge back so the brickwork is stuck to the board, which will save some precious space on such a small layout and look more prototypical. There's not much left to do on the layout but I've just got to do it! Thanks, Jack.
Jack374
Wow! Another four months have gone by and I've nothing to show for the time elapsed. The layout has been set up in my room all this time, and has been used to pose locos and stock on which are on the workbench...effectively a storage shelf. This week I moved the layout and gave it a good hoover, and cleared it of all the clutter and locos/stock that had been left on it. This made me realise how far advanced the project is, and how close I am to being able to exhibit it if I wish. Progress in the meantime has included scrapping the bridge at the entrance in favour of a low relief version. This is because space is at a minimum and realistically, a bridge wouldn't be positioned over a three way point. I've no photos of this, but I've basically stuck the front of the bridge to the wooden backscene. This evening, I started by looking at the rear retaining wall. I have numerous sheets of embossed stone plasticard, so some were cut to length and offered up. To hide the joints, some drain pipes from the road above will be run down the wall. One sheet was placed on the 'bench and covered all over in Tesco's own brand acrylic black paint, in a thin even layer. As this dried, it was gently wiped off a couple of times with a finger and then left to dry fully. Then further pressure was applied to just rub off the top layer, leaving paint in the recesses. I will probably spray these with matt varnish to protect it for the future, but for now the other one and a half sheets will be done in the same way. Oo err missus! I've also been musing over the depot building itself. I think I might make a new one based on Carnforth shed, the WCRC home base. This is effectively a tin roof with supports, but the open nature means many internal details can be modelled. DRS have a refuelling shed quite like it at Crewe Gresty Bridge, and since it will only be light repairs, it wont need to be as closed to the elements as your standard shed. The space available: Please let me know your opinion on this, as I'm sat on the fence! Keep on modelling! Jack.
1722
Hello Jack, firstly, excellent modelling. Most enjoyable to watch this develop. Secondly, regarding the shed building, I'd say yes, go for it. You do lots of detailing work on your locos and to me it seems a shame to hide them in a shed. If you can have a shed that allows viewers to see your finely detailed locos then I think that's win-win IMHO. Thanks Chris
Jack374
To everyone who has viewed, rated, commented or followed the layout over the past year, I would like to wish you a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. The layout will hopefully be finished over the next few months, and progress has been made on replacing the buffer stops (hopefully for the last time!), planning a new open-sided shed and making new lights and the rear retaining wall. I'll post a full progress update soon, but I hope to get the layout to a good standard shortly. Above are a selection of locos which I've modified and documented on my workbench thread. The retaining wall is posed in position for now. Thanks for sticking with this project...hopefully I'll have some progress to show very soon! All the best, Jack.
