RMweb Premium Mike Bellamy Posted March 21, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 21, 2014 Now that our friends down the A52 have got their recent show over, it's time to make a start on promoting the next big event in the East Midlands. Peter Kazmierczak
Though I live many miles from Derby now, DCFC's results are always the first I look out for. Well done to the Rams today.

andyram
Some great layouts looking forward to the show. I will be there and wearing my Rams shirt with pride. 5-0 is not just great it is a stunning result. I am sure the rain storm that hit Derby around 2pm on Saturday was actually caused by tears from the wrong end of the A52!!
RMweb Premium Mike Bellamy Posted May 2, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 2, 2014 Only a week to go with our preparations for the Derby Show at Moorways Sports Centre . . . . . . . Those who have been supporting us for a number of years will recall shows at the Assembly Rooms in the City Centre - it's a good job that we don't use that venue anymore as there was a serious fire a few weeks ago which has closed the building for at least 18 months. The fire was actually in the 'plant room' which house all of the water boilers, heating equipment, air conditioning units etc - this was actually built on top of the car park next door and was totally destroyed along with smoke damage into the main building. City Council are now looking at options to refurbish or demolish and replace (which in the long run might be a cheaper and more favourable option?)http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-26583719 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-27028740. bluebottle
I haven't so far attended the Derby show; very remiss of me, especially as I usually manage to get to Nottingham. I'll certainly come and view the A1 collection listed above, though. Some layouts I've enjoyed before, and plenty I haven't yet had the pleasure of seeing. Looks like A Grand Day Out! Northpoint
I will be going to the lockup on Wednesday to retrieve Astley and its associated stock ready to dust it down and load it for Friday. Look foward to seeing you there.
Mike J
The Scarborough crew is bringing Rumbling Bridge and North of England Line. NoEL has had a recent spruce up, with attention to some of the scenery and one or two electrical glitches. Saturday will see BR 1950/60s transitional stock including prototype diesels Kestrel and Deltic, and many green diesels as well as steam, including A1, WD, Black 5s, to name a few. Sunday will see a step back in time to 1930/40s LNER and LMS steam including the W1 hush hush, P2 Cock o the North, A4 Silver Fox and the Silver Jubilee train, V2 Coldstreamer with the Scotch goods, B17 streamliner East Anglian on test train, and many more including A3s, J11, J25, J39s, Q2 (and massive coal train), 4F, 8F, B1, B17, J83, Aspinal tank, and a few more that I've forgotten! Rumbling Bridge has sound fitted locomotives, weathered and detailed including D11 Wizard of the Moor, as well as Clayton and Sulzer diesels running through this run down but beautiful Scottish station with entirely scratch built buildings and scenery. All our members staffing the layouts are really looking forward to the show and meeting fellow RMwebbers, so anyone wishing to stop by for a chat would be most welcome. Wishing everyone a successful and enjoyable show. Mike
black and decker boy
I saw Barton Road at the recent Liverpool show and its an amazing Little layout, very different concept and very nicely modelled. Well worth a trip to see. I made a short video of it
RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted May 6, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 6, 2014 This exhibition will be one of the few times my train set comes out to play, so it's only one of a few to have to avoid having to look at bodged mediocrity. The layout was to be converted into a roundy round, but, as with some things in life events happen, and a family illness has prevented this, so it will appear as an end to end. Apologies to those who like to see trains being whizzed along at a great rate of knots, me included. The silver lining to this cloud is that there is now a vast acreage of the Moorways centre which will be under utilised, and thanks to the kindness and efforts of Alex and the organisers, this space will be filled by an EMGS demo stand, as Keilder Forest backs onto mine something of an "Achievable Excellence" corner will be created. Do call past and hurl insults/rotten fruit/money etc etc. Mike.
RMweb Premium Mike Bellamy Posted May 6, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 6, 2014 Thanks Mike - is it possible to have both bodged mediocrity and achievable excellence at the same time . . . . I have noted your requirements - insults are always available, rotten fruit may be at the local Allenton Market just down the road, and as I'm the money man, you'll only get that if we think you have provided non stop worthwhile entertainment from start to finish and if we don't get trains being whizzed along at a great rate of knots then you'll go home empty handed (with perhaps just a small contribution to your costs). Of course going roundy round would be more appropriate for next year's show - - - - - all will be revealed on Saturday . . . ! RMweb Premium skipepsi Posted May 6, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 6, 2014 Hoping to come along on the Sunday as it will be less crowded, MrsB is still using two crutches to walk and takes up space. She has been pleasantly suprised so far by how well mannered railway modellers are but I don't let her get too close to rucksacks.

RMweb Premium Mike Bellamy Posted May 8, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 8, 2014 Took advantage of the late evening sunshine to go out and climb lampposts fixing the road signs - just hope they are still there Monday when I go back to collect them. Also had to call at the Post Office to collect an undelivered parcel containing the admission tickets so that means we have something to give you when you pay ! Weather forecast isn't so good for the weekend and so if it's wet we'll allow visitors into the café area first so that you don't have to queue in the rain. Not long now . . . . . . . . . Mike.(W) That's good news Mike - if you believe everything you read on RMweb, that's a lot better than some layout reports we've seen from other shows where visitors claim to have been there all day and not seen anything move - although we would prefer you to get the operating method down to no more than 6 pushes an hour - so that's only once every 10 minutes - no pressure there but your expenses depend on it . . . . . . . I've paid money to other members of the organising committee, (no names no pack drill, but it was a long weekend at Bristol), for the privilege of being invited, in fact I believe some of them have booked their cruise already.
