Lincomb Lock on the River Severn this evening:

And the same location 47 years ago in 1968:

I wish I'd had a digital camera in those days -- don't we all? I did however process the colour negative film myself.

edit -- I have only just noticed that the black and white sections on the gate beams have swapped over. Does anyone have a date for that? Off to check some canal pics.

Martin.

I was just leaving the depot today, when i saw a woman with a couple of toddlers rushing across the public bridge so that the kids could see the train leaving the station. Not only did they just about make it, but the HST driver saw them and gave them a toot. The children were absolutely delighted that the driver acknowledged them, and it made my day too.

A glorious Spring day today. This was the view looking west from Old Hills, Worcestershire.

Looking all the better for the presence of a cheese & pickle sandwich. smile.gif

Hi. Have been cycling around Howden in E. Yorkshire. Came across the tiny village of Brind to the north of Howden, and here's some photo's which I took of this lovely tree-lined place.

This taken from the junction with main road from Howden:

The last bend before Brind:

This what passes here for the village - mainly trees and fields!

And here is the road looking back towards Howden:

All the best from leafy Yorkshire,

On the way to getting one of my vans MOTed this morning I took this shot from near the top of Park Hill, Charlton Marshall looking north, across the Stour valley, towards the southern end of Cranborne Chase.

And about 45 degrees to the left, Blandford nestles in a depression in front of the North Dorset Downs.

Aren't these beautifully clear anticyclonic conditions just perfect both for photography and for getting out and about within....so wonderful without the full leaf canopy of the woodland...the wood anemones responding to the maximum light flooding through the bare branches.....lookout though...next week looks much colder...even the 'white stuff' perhaps in some areas, especially the higher levels!!  Cheers for the beautiful pictures...Bob

Croft Hill SSSI, Leicestershire.

The site of some splendid Norman butchery justice in 1124 when 44 thieves were hanged at the top of the hill and a further six unfortunates blinded and castrated on the same day. It's quieter now apart from when the adjacent quarry is blasting.

Croft Quarry. Said by some to be one of the deepest man made holes in Europe -  approximately 270 metres or 900 feet deep.

Some slightly more sylvan scenery - the River Soar which runs at a lower level along one side of the quarry site.

And I thought Delabole was big, and is only half that depth -amazing!!

Off to Cogden Beach at Burton Bradstock to walk the dogs today before the good weather breaks tomorrow - must remember the camera :sungum: .

Every years around this time, the hovering bees arrive to jealousy patrol a patch of our garden; usually around 18 ft by 10 ft. The one near my garden table is great as he keeps the flying pests away from me and my butties. They are not exactly camera friendly and I was swinging the zoom around like a demented missile launcher before going for a grab shot this this afternoon......

A beautiful day at Cogden Beach, Burton Bradstock with all 3 'pups' enjoying an excellent walk on a beach very popular with dog owners, with many intrigued by our glorious, cool, laid-back Merlin the Leonberger (avatar).

Hive Beach at the western end of Cogden, looking over Lyme Bay.

View of Hive Beach from behind the café ( a place to avoid if, like me, you don't like pretentious over priced food).

Sublime S&D country.

Indeed, the track-bed, now a footpath, is in the line of trees to the right of the rape-field in the lower picture, and continues along the field hedge that can be just made out to the right.

View from Nordy Bank last evening. Nordy Bank is an Iron Age hill fort on Brown Clee hill in South Shropshire. The golf ball in the distance is the Air Traffic Control radar station on Titterstone Clee.

You have my sympathy, here in Dorset we had warm, wall to wall sunshine while sitting outside having my 11'o'clock coffee break in just a t-shirt above the belt line :sungum: .

What were you wearing below the belt line? :O
