Lenton North Junction 3F 3711 up parcels  c1948 JVol2242

Not your stereotypical parcels train!

Ex-LNWR carriage in departmental use - a 50 ft non-corridor brake - probably third - of c. 1900.

and ditto an ex-Midland 54 ft clerestory corridor brake third. The two dropside wagons next to it, sheeted, are ex-Midland D305 8-ton lowside wagons with Ellis-type grease axleboxes, built in the late 1890s and probably in departmental use for much of their life.

Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of Radcliffe on Trent, and the remains of Bingham Road station on the GN and LNWR Joint line to Melton Mowbray and beyond. The first photo’ at Radcliffe on Trent, of the River Trent bridge, newly rebuilt, in April, 1980, looks superb, and it was clearly looking as good as new.

The black and white photo’s of Lenton North Junction in Nottinghamshire, from c1948, 1950 and 1952, are a splendid selection. JVol2242, of 3F, 3711, on an up parcels train, in c1948, is a superb shot of the short train being hauled tender first.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic mixed bag of photo’s, with four in North Wales - two LNWR and two Cambrian Railway - and two others. C7486, of Holywell Junction signalbox, on the 19th April, 1986, is a superb photo’ of the box.

The Woodhead route photo’s are a great selection. C3268, at Torside, with two Class 76’s on a westbound coal train, in April, 1977, being a splendid photo’ of a typical coal train in later years.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Carlisle 86238 European Community up European Glasgow and Edinburgh to Parkeston Quay 26th Aug 86 C7962

Nice to see one of "our" 86s at the wrong end of 1E87's journey, 86238 normally lived on the Ipswich - London run

Some photos taken at Carlisle come next.

Ah yes, 86s and 87s - proper locomotives, with longer service lives than a good few of their celebrated predecessors on the WCML.

Good evening, David. That’s a great mixed bag of photo’s on Midland lines. C3898, at Awsworth, with a Class 20 on an up light engine movement, with the GNR viaduct behind, in June, 1978, being a most excellent composition. The viaduct makes a fascinating backdrop to the class 20.

The photo’s of Carlisle are a superb selection, and the last photo’ of 47482, on the 12th April, 1988, is a splendid portrait shot of the locomotive at rest.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Anyone fancy modelling the GNR viaduct at Awsworth?

Z gauge might be a bit too big.

Jonathan

T gauge, like that model of the Forth Bridge on the exhibition circuit a few years ago.

More than happy to be called Stupid but is C2993 at Pye Bridge, the connection with what’s now the Midland Railway Butterley?

The photo shows the main line heading north, taken from Alfreton Road.

The junction for the Midland Railway Butterley is a bit further south.

I think it’s further north at pye bridge itself looking at the bridge, I can’t see any more like it in the area on google earth

The MRC junction is slightly further south by about 1/4 mile at condor park

EDIT: pretty much what @DaveF put as I was ‘researching’!

So much modelling inspiration in one photograph with this one Dave, particularly in the colour palette and weathering on the station building... lovely stuff 😉

Pitsea Class 302 Shoeburyness to Fenchurch St Oct 79 C4842

This was my regular station from June 1980 until April 1992. Used to travel into Fenchurch Street and then walk to the NatWest Tower or Goodman's Field's computer centre. Brings back memories.
