Good afternoon, David. That is a most impressive set of photo’s of Ulgham Lane crossing on the ECML. In J10647, with 43173, leading a Glasgow to Kings Cross HST in March, 1990, it can be seen that the near all yellow cab end did not quite work as good those liveries that had the windscreen within a dark coloured band.

With warmest regards,

David,

J10647 looks as though it has a typo. 43173 was never buffer-fitted - only 43123 of the 431xx series received that mod (the others were all in the 430xx series), so it's most probably that.

Good evening, David. That’s a delightful set of photo’s of Morpeth. In J13561, with 37083, on a down light engine movement, in October, 1992, your Dad has caught a great three quarter frontal shot of the engine on the sharp curve.

With warmest regards,

Good evening, David. That’s an excellent selection of photo’s of the ECML from Darlington to Newcastle. The first photo’ at Hett Mill, with a class 91, on a down express passenger service in October, 1993, is a great example of a ‘train in the landscape’.

With warmest regards,

With the Penshaw Monument in the distance above it, that power car with white(ish) roof domes is almost identifiable...

Yes, Penshaw is easily identifiable, but what's the rectangular object above the 3rd last carriage? The water tower on Cleadon Hill?

Is that not a tower block? Seen it countless times but not really paid to much attention to it or noticed if its still there

I'm sure it's a tower block in the distance.  I've never taken much notice of it to be honest.

Good afternoon, David. That’s a most interesting selection of photo’s from around Blyth and North Blyth. In C6694, at North Blyth, on the 9th February, 1985, you can see a small locomotive and something that is most intriguing in front of it. On enlarging the photo’ it is, unfortunately, not possible to make out exactly what that something is.

The last photo’, at North Blyth, with the preserved K1, 62005, heading The Wansbeck, on the 30th March, 2013, is a remarkable contrast between steam and a wind turbine.

With warmest regards,

Good evening, David. That’s a fascinating set of photo’s of Blyth and some abandoned railways. In C6754 with the remains of the 1888 staithes, as on the 9th March, 1985, it’s good to know that they are now in use as a walkway. It’s nice to see, in the last photo’ the PS Waverley in May, 1981. Such a crowd of people to see her which is good.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Good afternoon, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway from 1979 and 1987. In J6614, at Haverthwaite, with Bagnall number 14, Princess, in August, 1979, your Dad has captured an excellent portrait shot of the locomotive complete in a fictional GER blue livery.

The Annesley and Bulwell black and white photo’s are true gems, from 1952 and 1953, and in JVol3048, at Holinwell Halt, Annesley, with ambulance carriage and ambulance van, in c1952, you have two vehicles which I’ve not seen before and what delightful models they would make. You simply don’t have vehicles like those on today’s clinical, unit railway.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Good evening, David. That’s an excellent set of photo’s of Newcastle Central. The first one of 43108, at the rear of a HST from Edinburgh to London Kings Cross in February, 1989, shows how good the Swallow livery was on the HST’s.

Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of the Newcastle to Carlisle line, including the viaduct over the River Tyne at Haltwhistle on what was the line to Alston. In J13674, at Riding Mill, with 153301, on a Middlesbrough to Carlisle service, in January, 1993, it can be seen that the 153 is leading a class 156 making up a three car set.

Good evening, David. That’s a most excellent set of photo’s of the ECML in Northumberland at Cramlington and Damdykes. In J14600, at Damdykes, with 56132, on an up coal train in February, 1994, you have something which is now just a memory, but thanks to your Dad it lives on the photo’.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.
