That rake of wagons in Jvol7402 has something for everyone. Is the second wagon an exNER type? I think similar ones were built by the LNER and even BR in completing LNER orders. And no two of the other hoppers seem to be identical.

A closer look shows it as a common or garden 7  - plank wagon with wooden solebar.

Yes, you are right. At first sight it seemed to have sloping sides, but I think it is because of the odd angles of the various bits of the hopper wagon behind. But modellers please note that you do not need a uniform rake of hopper wagons.

It's got no side door. The style of the ironwork suggests an acid jar wagon or something of that sort but I think the context is a strong pointer to it being a hopper wagon. It's got the V marking indicating bottom doors. It's certainly not in the style of a NER hopper wagon but there were plenty around that had conventional curb rails etc. It could be ex-PO.

More interesting photos as usual. The Jubilee at Trent in jvol2042 is Holbeck's 45608 Gibraltar. It would be quite lost if it was Bushbury's Polyphemus.

Thanks Simon,

Dad had the right number, I mistyped it and then "corrected" the name.  This time Dad was right!

Often used to go to Trent Station spotting in the early 60s. Wonderful place to visit.

Memories of train loads of 16T behind an 8F with buffers banging as they came down the slope from Toton heading south.

Thanks for these Dave, made my day.

Good afternoon, David, on what is such a hot day. What can I say, but that is a most excellent set of photo’s of my local line, and, today, is closed down owing to the heat and fears metal sleepers to the south of Bridlington might buckle in the heat. Hopefully it will re open on Wednesday morning.

Your lovely photo’s capture the line so perfectly, and the first one of my station at Beverley, on the 20th October, 2009, is a classic view of the station. I don’t know what issues you had taking that photo’, but I know you would have been stood on the roadway to take the photo’, just as I have on numerous occasions. On the up side of the station, at the far end of the up platform, you can see a tall sign. That has now been replaced by a position light signal.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Is that view looking north at Bempton station? We were there puffin and gannet hunting a few weeks back and I thought the platform was the coast side of the train.

Hi, eastwestdivide. That photo’ is looking south towards Bridlington, and therefore you are quite right, the remaining  platform is on the up side of the line.

Best regards,

 Rob.

C6714 Even as late as 1985, still a classic view of the station although rationalisation has removed the former suburban bays on the right. An interesting idea for a layout perhaps, with remains of track leading to an area that has been turned into a car park.

Of course today, there's hardly any track left! (Relatively speaking)

Good evening, David. That’s a most impressive selection of photo’s of Newcastle. The first one, as stated, is a classic view, with that HST ready, on that SW to NE service ready to clatter over those remarkable points. And in the second one, 143012, on a Sunderland to Hexham service in February, 1987, it will be screeching and clattering through all that pointwork as it nods violently up and down.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Good afternoon, David. That is a delightful set of photo’s of Stocksfield on the Newcastle to Carlisle line. In C11863, with 43111, leading a diverted Edinburgh to London Kings Cross HST on the 15th April, 1989, you have composed the photo’ most expertly, and the HST is looking good in the Swallow livery.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Fantastic variety there David!  Is the line in the foreground in the first picture the Belvoir branch?  I thought it closed in about 73 but it doesn't look very well used there
