BRM special issue October 2014 - RMweb Live

We're planning to make October 2014 BRM 'The RMweb Issue', using content chosen and submitted by RMweb members. This is intended to strengthen the bonds between BRM and RMweb and introduce some elements of interactivity between the magazine and its readers. October 2014 issue is on sale just before RMweb Live in September.

It's going to require more planning, preparation and organisation than a normal issue, so we need to start now if it is going to happen properly. Below is a rough outline of what the issue will contain and a lot of extra preparatory work is needed due to its nature.

Cover: The cover options for the magazine will be put to a vote by RMweb members based on the content that gets decided between us.

Layouts: We will select a shortlist of 10 or more layouts, some of which are likely to be closely linked to RMweb. Members will then vote for their favourite three, with recommendations to look beyond their own interests and choose the best mix. We will ask readers for comments about the three winners and include them in the feature ('Why we think it's special')

Practical BRM: If you'd like to submit an article detailing a practical project we'll choose the best entries and move those forward.

Prototype Articles: We'll give a list of five different prototype articles which you'll be able to vote for to determine which you'd like to see.

Q&A: We'd like you to raise some questions and we'll get fellow members to answer those questions and publish the most useful ones.

Readers Layouts: We will expand this section of the mag for this special issue so it's a chance to see your layout in print and we can even include video content in our digital edition.

Reviews: Dependent on what products are coming through in the lead-up to this issue we'd like to get readers involved with some reviews and feature member comments alongside reviews

Editorial Consultants - Fancy being a guest editor?

Please do get in touch with us if you fancy seeing what being an editor is like! Drop us 50 words or so saying why you think you'd be good for the role and we'll get the writers of the most interesting responses more involved with the issue with a chance to spend the day in the office with us seeing how the magazine comes together with a chance to make decisions on images, page layouts and a look at the printing process.

Q&A: We'd like you to raise some questions and we'll get fellow members to answer those questions and publish the most useful ones.

Rather than limit to new Q&A is there some value in trawling the forum and selecting some of the gems and those oft repeated questions (perhaps it will cut back on the repeats ;) ) I know there is always someone new to the hobby to whom the question is also new but seeing them over and over on here does get a little wearing on the generosity of those answering.

Oh sadly Layout selection by members is going to be very difficult - the same problem the magazine must face every issue. Votes are likely to be swayed to the region, scale and size as reflected by membership. Difficult not to bias towards fine scale and 4mm, also something new that has not been done to death before.

Something about the foods of RMweb by CK? Parsnips, Pasties and Sausages!

On a more serious note it would be great to see something on the very large scale modelling that some of the members do 5 1/4 inch etc. This would show that it's not just the small scales that are dealt with.

Julie will hate me probably how about an article on her signals

this could be applied  to the bigger scales

Thank you Nigel although I think the article would be more suited to a different magazine.

Julia.
