someone once asked me about the guts of the layout out and how it works, so while giving it a dust down I'd take a few pictures

Here is a overall view of the underneath

Brown/Blue = track power with feed droppers plus power to the point motors and CDU

Yellow, Green/Blue = 12 to 16 volt auxiliary power supply (for everything else)

Ok so some close ups now starting with the CDU (Capacitor Discharge Unit)

Next to that is one of two flashing units

CDU connected to the pointmotors

Ok now recently I installed (well I say recent but that's long ago now) three magnetic uncouplers

These inturn are used along with the Kadee couplers installed on the locomotive's and rolling stock

post-23271-0-16886200-1468010819_thumb.jpg

All this is controlled via a control panel. Now here is how it works, the point is a three way point Peco SLE-99 (modified, I'll explain that in a bit) so there's two point motors underneath connected to the CDU connected to the switches on the control panel but most of use should know all the little details

The point itself is modified in such a way that I can manipulate the polarity of the point manually which gives me a 90% chance that all my shunters will not stall at all now to me is impressive where as before I thought the point was unreliable

Three push buttons (one each track) activates the uncouplers for a brief second to enable separation

Locomotive addresses and for those with sound the functions of each one

Hopefully I'll have the layout down this weekend and see if the giant jumble of wires still work

Any questions just ask

Long time since I written here but this is a must

I went to Warley again three years running and this is a first

I had a list of spares I needed and upon the list were number 19's Nem pocket Kadee coupling, can't remember what stall I bought them off but in future I'll check EVERY!!! single item I purchase cause I've heard of stealing at some shows but not with the traders

Anyway purchased a pack and put them safe till needed

Fitting a class 08 with sound so I'll do the coupling too now that there all kadees

For those of you that don't know what they look like here are a few I have in a pot labelled up running a little low

post-23271-0-76487200-1481150812_thumb.jpg

Here they are next to the packet that I've just opened up

post-23271-0-63455200-1481150864_thumb.jpg

Here is the packet

post-23271-0-99620600-1481150869_thumb.jpg

Now without swearing look at what's inside

post-23271-0-16965100-1481150875_thumb.jpg

post-23271-0-78292800-1481150880_thumb.jpg

Does any of this look like a kadee what's in my hand

post-23271-0-57824900-1481150886_thumb.jpg

post-23271-0-92239500-1481150892_thumb.jpg

There's even fishplates in here for .... sake if I'd have know I wouldn't of needed to buy any

post-23271-0-09351500-1481150898_thumb.jpg

Now I've been to many shows and I have heard of stealing now and again from the traders themselves and I don't agree with stealing, it's wrong and you should never do it and most of the time I check some second hand items before buying but this was sealed. So in this situation I've wasted my money on a trader which by the look of the packet HAS!!! done this before and weight them so they feel right in hand

My advice to you my fellow model railway enthusiasts is check every single item you buy even if you have to open it cause at the end of the day if you need to open it your certainly going to buy it especially once opened

How much are they going on ebay these days :sarcastichand: :sarcastichand: :sarcastichand:

What on Earth...?!!!!  Crazy.  I feel for you, that's both bizarre and rather disgraceful behaviour on someone's part.

Thought after posting: Have you posted this in the Warley thread too?  Maybe others have been caught out with the same thing...

Hi Shaun,

So lets get this straight - you bought a packet of Kadees from a stall at the NEC and inside were those bits?

Time to name and shame, get your money back, and get some free Kadees like you needed in the first instance!

Thats appalling!  :O

Hope you get what youre after mate

Long time since I've been thinking of this but with Doncaster coming up I thought I'd have another go

I've written up an exhibition sheet to start handing out and I would like our opinions of how to improve it better

I'm not sure of charging for travel expenses of overnight accommodation so would like advice on that

also this has reminded me I must get insurance on the layout just in case so it will be a case of taking photos of everything to catalogue

Anyway I've put a link in to my sheet see what you think

Long time indeed so today I thought I'd get it down from the wardrobe and see if it still works

After an hour of cleaning the track (and cobwebs) till it was as shiny like new I managed to run an entire session without one mishap

I think I'll try again tomorrow cause I couldn't believe it worked with no problems at all

Hell I might even get the camera out and shoot a couple of videos

I am confused Shaun, is this Scarborough and District Club? Because their website shows different dates, and I cannot find another Club there.

I'm sure it is a different one from the District club as there's is in April, I think the show that I'm heading for is a smaller local one in a church

I'll just look for the link and attach it here

It is on the UK Model shop directory

Hi,

It's a totally separate show run by a few guys who wanted to put a show on in Scarborough, it's nothing to do with Scarborough and District Railway Modellers.

I went last year and it was a good little show, if your in the area I recommend a visit.

Jerry.
