Diesel Hydraulic Era O Gauge Garden Railway (Steve Beattie Class 22)

Recommended Posts

Thanks Peter :)

I hadn't noticed the spoked wheel set in the prototype Pic, I may recreate that if I have a suitable wheel set as I love that kind quirky feature ;)

The Westdale GUV are excellent & less than half the price of the competition too !

No worries Phill, enjoy your holiday.

Cheers Peter.

Phill!

A man after my own heart, I often take a few projects on hols-with an ever expanding 'basic' tool kit-just in case of rainy days.

Having said that I havent had a holiday for about 3 yrs now.

I shall watch your progress with this modification with interest, it's ingenious!

Kindest,

M.

My toolkit is completely mobile apart from the largest tools such as the Dremel etc. For the last few years I have been using two of these cheap fishing tackle boxes, I use one for all my paints & painting gear & this one for tools ;)

Back to the Sand Wagon....

post-6992-0-53993900-1501780939_thumb.jpg

As you can see the wagon is more or less complete & after giving it a initial coat of rust (will take & post a pic later) I think it is ready for weathering & transfers. As you can see in the pic I have decided to make a second wagon using the bottom half of the original Lima body for this one ...."waist not want not" lol

This will hopefully be of interest to others too is a photo sequence showing how I went about building a British Railways Sand Wagon. The wagon was built completely from scrap from other projects. I used one & a half chassis sides from a long ago broken Van with the missing W iron & axle box replaced with a spare whitemetal casting, although a complete Lima 16T Mineral chassis could have been used if I had one available. I did use a Lima 16T Mineral body as the basis of the Sand Wagon body, the top was cut off 17mm below the wagon body top & the side & end doors were completely removed & Plastruct ribbing added once the body was smooth. Once complete & the various mods were filled I painted the wagon all over in rust & added grey patches to suggest a worn top coat of grey but in very rusty condition. I had some spare 16T Model Master decals which were modified to suite the wagon & there we have it a Sand Wagon from scrap  :)  ...

I use  these Peter, I would also recommend the HMRS pressfix sheets as well for more general loco, coach & wagon insignia   :)

Thanks Phill,

I have used Modelmaster for my 4mm stuff so will check out their website. I like the pressfix too so will look for some of them.

Cheers Peter.

An update on the Westdale Guv. This vehicle has now been painted in JLTRT cellulose & weathered using Railmatch enamels, the eagle eyed among you may notice that the destination chalk boards say Withercombe (the terminus of my railway)

That GUV looks a bit tasty Phill - well done. Any chance of some pictures of the ends please?

Regards

Dan
