Not the greatest picture but this was Bury up loop last night some vegetation has been cut back and there are some new rails in the cess so maybe it's about to be relaid and the points to the sidings plain lined, that would be a shame as the remains of the yard do get used for stone traffic from time to time

The 5th edition of Railway Track Diagrams for the Eastern area (2020) says that Bury yard is "Planned for closure 2021".  I haven't noticed anything in Modern Railways Trackwatch but may have missed it or forgotten it.  Either way it looks like it has happened - very sad.

Thanks to Dave F posting some photos of Nottingham in days gone by  I was reminded that on 2nd August 2006 I paid a visit to Nottingham Express transit (NET) courtesy of the Railway Study Association.

I have more photos to post but, sadly, RMWeb is playing up again and refuses to let me post any more than five photos.  Expect a revisit sometime.

A lovely floral display at Embsay on 14th September 2022.  This just shows the effort that many unpaid and unsung volunteers put in on our preserved railways.  I have used the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway as an example but I am sure I could have taken a similar photo on the majority of such lines.  Well done to all concerned.

Since the forecast was good today and my better half was suffering from Cabin Fever after being cooped up over Christmas with the grandchildren we decided to head out into the Suffolk countryside.  We ended up at Sudbury just in time for me to photograph the 14.26 to Marks Tey.

On 5th November 2004 the Railway Study Association organised a visit to the Bicester Military Railway.  I have posted some photos from this visit before but here are those that I have not yet shared.

We first visited the loading area where we could see in detail how these wagons are loaded.

Later in the day we were taken around the site in this coach and then...

We were also shown how to rerail wagons by the boys and girls freshly returned from Iraq where they had honed their craft to perfection.

Today my wife and I went to Cambridge to see the film The Menu.  As always we allowed time for her to empty as many charity shops as possible in the Kite area before having a bite to eat and seeing the film which gave me an opportunity to gravitate towards Mill Road bridge to take a few photographs.  I was half way there when I realised that today was a strike day and that I might be wasting my time.  I wasn't disappointed, however.  To make things more interesting, I've included similar shots of days gone by all of which have been posted before but which make fascinating comparisons with the current scene.

Thank you Chris!  Once again the old pictures take me back to my youth when I spent a lot of time in that area for one reason and another but the present day ones are unrecognisable to me.

I presume the enormous new staircase down from Mill Road Bridge is just for staff access; ironically there were similar (but much much simpler) staircases from that bridge years ago which were ideal spotting locations.

Hi Chris

I can hear the rattle of the Cravens unit....or it my tinnitus?

I am not as familiar with Cambridge as Steve but the photos of Rail Blue trains are wonderful.

Yes, that's correct.  It was used by someone while I was taking a photo but it wasn't accessible by oiks like me.
