DOCJACOB
Fairly staple fare in the 90's in Humberside area. Usually found in pairs on oil workings. The 5 in a group (at Brocklesby) were usually seen on a Friday afternoon heading off for engineering work. They generally returned on a Monday afternoon. A few of my own images in places that are virtually unrecognisable/unaccessable today: 2 images at Barnetby before the new blue bridge. 2 images at Melton Ross 2 images at Brocklesby before the platforms were closed to public access.

Steve-e
That's an interesting livery, what is it? From here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_97 97203 + 97204 These locomotives were converted from Class 31 locomotives. The first, no. 97203, was operated by the Railway Technical Centre, based at Derby. It was used to haul various test-trains operated by the centre. However, in 1987, the locomotive was written-off after having sustained fire damage. Therefore, a replacement in the form of 97204 was converted. This later returned to normal traffic, as no. 31970. Both locomotives were painted in RTC's red/cream livery with a black bodyside band. Basically it was 31326 went to the RTC and got renumbered/repainted as 97204 then when the RTC were done with it it returned back to normal traffic as 31970. was scrapped in 1997 Lima did do a model of it http://www.ehattons.com/89351/Lima_L205229_LN_Class_31_Diesel_31970_BR_Research_Red_Grey_RTC_Derby_Pre_owned_Like_new/StockDetail.aspx Would probably sell well if Hornby re-did it. Theres a good comparison photo of the livery here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/90550-rtc-class-31-13970-livery/?p=1601033 Cheers Steve Steve

It was still a firstly a RTC test locomotive, but could be used in normal traffic when not required for test trains from the RTC. The Cl47s were the same. 97480/545/561 were renumbered 47971-973 but still used in normal service unless required by the RTC.

ChrisB
Was thinking exactly the same Rob............I thought you were reducing your 31 fleet ! Edited January 13, 2016 by ChrisB
rob D2
Indeed, I did, but they were all the same. I have a policy of not having identical locos anymore, other than, er 47s Having said that it would be hard to do I think as Hornby released 31111 as a blue skinhead, but you'd have to be careful as that was one of the rotten ones, or repaint 105 from rail freight grey. What I really need is a 50.....

RMweb Gold The Pilotman Posted January 8, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 8, 2015 (edited) Some main line Class 31 action. First up is 31434 arriving at Reading on August 11th 1987. I don't know what the train was but I seem to recall it was an additional. Any bashers jumping on at Reading for a bit of 31 haulage would have been disappointed because.....
