Merfyn Jones
Intereresting Ringo , as an aside does anyone know when Leyland DAF badgeing was deleted in favour of DAF ? A quick look at flickr shows W reg. (mid 2000) labled Leyland DAF, and 52 reg (2002-3) labled DAF. Also some older ones labled as DAFs, which could be replacement badge/grilles or maybe European ones. Merf.

I found a similar one but very unclear, on some web site a while back with similar lettering, I think it was parked lineside at Worting Jct. The engineers ones had cupboard doors at the rear and the parcel vans had roller shutter doors. Although I did see the rear of one in a photo at Carnforth of a green one with roller doors. I seem to recall the Southern lettering vans similar to -- BRITISH RAILWAYS Civil Engineers Dept. Southern Region

The second one is quite well photographed, and could well be the prototype that the Bedford BRUFFs were developed from. It appears to have started off as a recovery vehicle, before being handed down to the Civil Engineers. But the first one, well what is it for, and where is it, and that non corporate livery ! Merf. stewartingram
Must be the vehicle that goes out at night just to polish the railhead, to make it nice and shiny? I've seen a guy with a rag doing it on the Underground... Stewart

ringo
I have a copy of that Bedford HA brochure, cracking photograph though.... As for the unimog posted earlier with the blue light on it, a lot of on track machinery has flashing blue lights, as this is used to warn others that the machine (which can be sometimes remotely controlled) has the potential to move without warning. Merfyn Jones
A quickie for those with a modern image contemporary layout. Network Rail and Freightliners choice for a small van. Produced from Oxford Diecast's recent offering of the Vauxhall Corsa. Just fill the rear side windows and doors, a coat of white and there you have it. Merf. Merfyn Jones
New from Oxford diecast and suitable for the period from 1970 to 1976 the Commer PB van is a nice model. And for some thing different their Postbus can be converted to a normal 12 seater minibus by the use of a hacksaw to remove the roof rack adding filler to the hole and scribing the roof panels. The van as it comes with just some matt black around the windows and new ER numberplates. The minibus based on a photo of one at Doncaster. Merf. hmrspaul
An unusual (?) Bedford TK artic at 0.13secs in the video at the beginning of http://www.york.gov.uk/citycentreimprovements Apologies if linked before. Various other nice 1970s (a guess) scenes, even a glimpse very close up of a red star van. Paul PS don't believe the hype, the closure of Lendal bridge is awful. Fat Controller
An ex-works Portacabin on the back of what looked like a Tasker trailer; the rear axle assembly used to be detached for unloading. Isn't Portacabin's factory somewhere near York, Paul?
hmrspaul
Apologies, quite correct it isn't a BR vehicle. And Yes Portacabin are situated on the outskirts of town (these days). The centre of town is unrecogniseable with so much traffic! Paul
Merfyn Jones
A few more from the workbench. An Albion Reiver of the Midland Region, based in Birmingham for moving powder containers which were unloaded by tipping the flatbed body. EFE chassis and Langley cab with scratch built body. AEC Mercury artic from a BT Models base. One of 2 trialled by the Midland Region in 1958. The stuck with buying Austin WEs. The recent kit from RTI, based on a photo of an old rusty example at York goods depot, used by BR engineering departments from about 1963 to 1976. A comparison with the old Efsi model of over 30 years ago, much modified.
