A dodge commando, later on with the plastic grill......doesnt look too bad!

and this terrier, with its lower side doors filled in, and the lettering in a diffrent place again...

the other side of the NSE DMS, not seen this before

and finally, not sure if this one was posted before, another terrier, makes me think they came with windows only in the upper part of the side doors, or maybe they all just got broken! Plenty of nostalgia here!

and here is another good pic courtesy of the OOC facebook page, a couple of escort combis, they seem hard to find pictures of, probably a dodge re railing unit, and of course the tragic mishap of invincible and a big mess.

This one, C956 YOR - not in the best of health, a lot missing and damaged, and nature gradually taking its course - no idea how long its been here, but clearly a while.

The second one below had no number plates, and the tax discs was faded so I could not find the reg number, the only identifier was a "Crewe TMD" allocation stocker on the door, no body, the inside of the cab relativley complete, but the glass is smashed, so nature is taking its course.

This third one again had no plates and no tax disc, and nothing that I could find to identify it, the body is at an odd angle to the cab, the turntable was down and the insides very intact, with glass and everything!

between the staff and the owner of the yard, they reckjon there are between six and nine bruffs on site, although after a couple of hours I could only fine these three, but there was stuff and more stuff and mountains of cabs and axles, so they could be anywhere. According to "fred", some germans stripped the crownwheel and pinions from all of the diffs, the engines were sold, and from what I can see none of the rail wheels were present!

It was a nice day, and a very enjoyable way to spend a staurday morning!

Andy,

Thanks for the pics of the BRUFFs, I assume its the scrappy in Nottingham, thought they had been cut up ages ago! Interesting to see that they still also have the orginal front wheel/axle configuration.

That last one looks like it could be a very useful source of spares for the ones still in preservation, Im still looking for one, if anyone want to sell me one for a good rate, not for use commercially, just for shows as a piece of history!

Cheers

Ringo

I believe that EWS at Toton gathered all these together and disposed of them in about 2002. So 10 years in that scrap yard !

C956YOR is ex Carlisle

C929YOR was at Crewe

Both of these were in the 2002 clear out, along with C957YOR and B848XOR.

I know of 3 'preserved' ones at Marsh Mills, Shackerstone and Leeming Bar. Any others ?

Ringo and Merf,

The yard is rush green motors in hitchin, herts, a real time warp place where stuff arrives, and then some bits are taken off, but then nothing much else happens other they get left there. Owner reckone they had six or nine in total, but according to this page, that may be bollox, and ringo i see you are here too!

I found those last week, and bought copies. The Bedford SB has to be modeled, one on order. I have a photo of a similar one in green which I have done a model of but have wanted a picture of a red/cream one for ages.

Those 'boring' bodied SBs were also popular with local authorities for school buses and the like. Somewhere I've got a photocopied 1970s page, perhaps from a brochure/handbook, of a variety of municipal vehicles, including the SB.

They were also used a lot by the military, especially the Royal Navy- a common feature on the forecourts of railway stations with bases in the vicinity on Fridays and Sundays.

Latest from the workbench. A Little Bus Co. kit for a AEC Regal I with Harrington body, dating from Jan.1948. Not much clues to ownership, but the livery is as sold by Maidstone and District.

British Railways bought 5 of them in 1958, the Eastern had one and the London Midland 3, one unknown. I have seen 3 photos including 2 localy all in the original livery and none in red and cream. So this one is ideal for the area of my layout as one of the pictures is only a short distance from my station. JKM424 was numbered by BR as 1019 SO M. I lasted until at least 1963.
