I was in hospital yesterday for a arthroscopy and wondered what to do while immobile today. Just gone through this whole thread and it’s really cheered me up. One part of me is envious of the space and the long straight runs, the other part realises the time and cost of 45 points and 70 yards in 12’ x 12’. I’ve been collecting points, track and stock for years, but if I was coming at the hobby cold I couldn’t afford to fill and stock as much as I have.

Congratulations, Russ, on a fine concept and execution. Seeing videos of some large layouts it’s obvious that board construction and track laying have either been rushed or boredom has set in, that’s obviously not happened to you. It all looks to run perfectly in the videos. Certainly inspiring me to crack on.

Thanks Brian hope you have a quick recovery

I was lucky with points as friend sold me over 50 unused points for a fiver each

The layout in its current form has taken four years to build and only been running for a couple of months.  Its scary how much things are now.

It's been a long haul with Cley as a whole,, almost had the original one complete then over a year of serious illness once this was over we had a garage built and decided to have a room built above it and decided to build a completely new layout which is now virtually complete

Some shed scenes,  I've also been a bit self indulgent as when I first started on BR as a YTS trainee my first placement was in the stores at Thornaby working with the forklift driver.

The lorry used to go round the North East depots delivering and collecting parts from the speedlink vans at Thornaby.  I've tried to recreate a typical scene with defective traction motors arriving from gateshead to be unloaded and sent to crewe for repair

Put together a parcels train today,  still a lot more NPCCS vehicles for these trains and gave the loaded coal wagons on a whitemoor to Blakeney power station service ( if anyone from the RSPB is watching, it's not real!)

Now the layout is virtually finished I'm making a point of getting stuff weathered.  I really enjoyed doing the minerals

Decided to extend the board 2with the yards about 18 inches over the stairwell.  This has enabled me to extend the engineers sidings and have another small fan of four sidings.  I could have extended it a bot more but didn't want to block more of the stairwell as this would limit the size of items I could get up the stairs

Unfortunately they haven’t uploaded in chronological order

*frantically taking down notes for when I get to making Telham Yard*

Fantastic work as always Russ. You've really made a good representation of the average Eastern Region terminus. I absolutely adore how good this looks.
How much space do all the lines require depth-wise?

Thanks for the kind words. The room is 35x18 and the outer boards 3ft and the centre one 5ft

I've been laid up with covid all last week and today was the first day I've felt like doing anything.

Extra details have been added to the pway yard. I've also bought a tripod/selfie stick so I can get better video and pictures from new locations around the layout

I no longer subscribe to any of the mags except RM but I’m away for the weekend at the moment and picked up a Hornby mag to while away some time. Whilst this looks good from the images we’ve seen on here and the YouTube clips, seeing it in all its technicolour glory in A4 print adds a new dimension, particularly the sheer scale of it.

We’ll done Russ, worth the fiver!

For those of us of 'a certain age' it's nice to see an early blue 37 and original blue 47, it's very unusual to see such liveries in model form. Spotted those as soon as I opened the magazine! To me these looked more 'balanced' than a single logo positioned off-centre. I'm also intrigued by Class 03 D2051 in green with BR arrow logo - I assume that like the 37 & 47 this one is based on reality? I know D2048 looked like this, I saw it from the train passing Swindon Works just before it was demolished there in 1973. Class 08 D3940 carried a similar combination. These livery oddities have always interested me.

I can't believe you built all this in just 4 years, I have far smaller projects I've got no further than thinking about for twice as long! You must live in a parallel universe where the days are 72 hours long.......😉

Outstanding effort - love it!!
