Andrew P
WOW Ben, That's really superb mate, that does look like a well worn workhorse, superb. One other mod I do is to cut off the front steps from the front Bogie and fix it immediately above onto the under side of the Buffer Beam, it looks a lot better on curves as it doesn't move about. More pics of more Stock soon I hope.
60091
Fantastic weathering job ... that's the way 9Fs should look. Edit... I might be a bit late mentioning this, but - I couldn't help noticing the excellent quality of your ballasting in the 9F photos! ben pez
A few photos of the newly weathered! 9f on an iron ore train up to the summit. Passing hangmans bridge.... Really need to sort the backscene out at this part of the layout, when they sort that landslip out on the s&c and start running steam tours again,i'll be back over to get some photos of wild boar fell. Drivers eye view of the road bridge!... Bloody stone walls are in the way of this shot!.. The driver keeps an eye on that distant signal.. Passing underneath the brick bridge at the summit, fireman can have a rest now! Passing the box... The sheep arnt the slightest bit bothered by it!.. Really going to have to use my decent slr camera rather than just my phone for more shots of the layout, when i figure how to upload the pics to a tablet from it. RMweb Premium Physicsman Posted April 8, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 8, 2016 (edited) Very nice set of photos, Ben. Someone has been enjoying themselves!! What kind of DSLR have you got? You ought to figure out the download as the camera is much more flexible than the phone, irrespective of how many megapixels the phone has! Good to see a really shi**ed up 9F at work. Along with Brits and Jubilees the Spaceships are my favourite. Jeff Edited April 8, 2016 by Physicsman
ben pez
Thanks jeff As for the camera, its a canon 450d. Ive actually ordered a card reader that hopefully will slot into a tablet. Cheers Ben
peach james
Ben, could you paint some of the ceiling of the room sky blue? I'm not going to suggest that you paint it Rhonda gray or suchlike The drivers eye view of the road bridge is cracking !
ben pez
Cheers james Thats a good idea,i think when the layout is more complete, got about another 10 foot of scenic section to build i may just roller some light blue paint on the ceiling. ben pez
Finally got round to using a proper camera as its taken me a while to figure out how to transfer photos from the camera to a tablet. A couple of shots for the sake of it! Cheers ben
ben pez
Was up in the loft this evening having a tidy up & had jubilee "achilles" running on the layout. Just a couple of shots from one end of the layout as the natural light was fading fast, the velux windows are only on one side of the roof unfortunately. ben pez
Done one small job whilst i was up in the loft. Fitted gangway connectors that ive had for ages to a rake of 7 mk1 coaches. Can't believe i used to run them without now! Makes a huge difference. Cheers

ben pez
Done a little bit towards the layout this week, although my free time at the moment has been getting used in the garden. Thought id scratch build a plate girder bridge for the next corner of the layout, the idea being that this will provide a small track/road providing access to a small farm house that i have planned on that corner of the layout. I used brickwork for this bridge instead of stonework simply because it was just spare stuff i had lying about. In fact im not even sure if there is a brick/girder plate bridge on the S&C line? Anyway a few pics... Cheers Ben

Cheers Ben I've got a Sony HX50 compact which you can control with a Blue Tooth app. Most modern cameras can do that. You set up the camera position and operate it with (in my case) the Android phone app and the picture is taken and immediately uploaded to the device. You should be able to do that with any modern smart phone/tablet Cheers Keith
ben pez
Cheers keith Unfortunately the canon camera i have doesnt have bluetooth, but ive sorted the problem by using a smaller memory card in it,which i can then use in a tablet to upload the pics to. Cheers Ben Does it have a USB socket? My fairly old Sony DSC-V3 had one If so you can transfer files with a USB lead, saves taking the memory card out each time you need to transfer something. ben pez
Unfortunately no usb socket on it,ive tried the lead from it to my samsung tablet, but after a lot of googling found out that the model of tablet i have will not support the camera annoyingly. So i just have to transfer the memory card. Cheers Ben
RMweb Premium melmerby Posted July 2, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 2, 2016 (edited) Unfortunate about the Camera. In fact im not even sure if there is a brick/girder plate bridge on the S&C line?CheersBen Yes there was. (well, small stones anyway!) This one over the A686 at Langwathby. https://goo.gl/maps/HchbbvS4aFm The deck has been replaced but the original was much like yours. I think all masonary on the S&C was with local stone (see edit!) but there were several plate girder bridges. Another at Long Marton: https://goo.gl/maps/Kb4TeuRPaXu Keith Edit I found some of the stone arched bridges are actually made of brick with just the outer facing of stone, like this skew one in Appleby: https://goo.gl/maps/XFu3PoNZPUM2 And all brick like this one south of Appleby: https://goo.gl/maps/1LWgDPqvsdo So I don't think yours will look out of place. RMweb Premium melmerby Posted July 2, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 2, 2016 Thanks for those google streetview links keith Much appreciated.suppose it wont look too much out of place than I originally thought! Cheers Ben I used to live in Melmerby and go under that one at Langwathby pretty regularly Been under several of the others as well. I thought almost all bridges were in the local brown stone but looking at Streetview there are quite a few variations including red & blue brick versions as well as several girder spans, quite a few of which have been renewed. You've got a nice looking layout there as well. Cheers Keith

Not talking bridges but Appleby was the only station built out of brick, all the others being local stone. I've a feeling I read somewhere that Ribblehead Viaduct is stone-faced brick. Even if that's not completely accurate the undersides of the arches look like brick.

It might be fairer to tell me not to believe everything that ends up in my head, that's more likely the source of getting it wrong than whatever book I read!
