Marcus 37
Managed to complete the quarry road down as far as the loco servicing shed today. Also the hard standing to the left of the servicing shed has also been done. It doesn't look a lot but by the time the Plastikard slabs have been roughed up and painted the process is quite time consuming. Still it keeps me out of trouble and the effort is worth it for the finished result. The maintenance shed is made up of two Pike stuff kits. The non rail side of the building will be for servicing the quarry plant. As they were recovered from the old layout they will need some extra work and repainting. Seemed a shame to waste them though as they are a very good modern building kit. Here's some pictures of what the area looks like now. Day off tomorrow so may well have a go at doing something with the building tomorrow. Cheers for now Marcus
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted November 13, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 13, 2016 Superb! That concrete hardstanding is just so good. Well done mate, that's top class modelling. Al.
Marcus 37
Cheers Al. Really appreciate the compliment. Must admit I'm pretty pleased with how its turned out. Just got to go the other way now in the direction of the station. Think I might take a rest from that for a bit and have a go at some of the buildings in the quarry area. Marcus 37
One last little treat for the night. Before coming down from the loft I did a quick little video on my phone. Not the best of quality but its nice to see some trains running round. Also my first attempt at putting clips together and uploading to Youtube. So not up to the standard of presentation of Anthony's offerings. Anyway, enjoy!
RMweb Gold big jim Posted November 13, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 13, 2016 im a bit concerned about those cows above the rockface in the second picture, there's no fence so they may tumble onto the tracks while grazing!

Hi Scoobyra and welcome to the thread. Don't worry I've missed some crackers over the years. Easy to do with so many layouts on here. Just had a look at your layout by following the link in your post. So I'd missed yours too. Your layout looks pretty superb. I shall be having a proper read through it later. I was hoping to prime my shed today outside but the weathers looking pretty rank at the moment. Cheers Marcus

I wish I had room for a proper railway and not an exhibition one. There's a few 'loft / garage / barn / shed' railways kicking about but very few that have an air of realism about them. I know it's horses for courses (and there's nothing wrong with people who own set track roundy roundies) but I do like a good 'proper' roundy roundy where you can run 'proper' trains. Right, time for a brew and a good read..... Mike

Marcus 37
Well the weather cheered up in the end so I managed to get outside and prime the shed. Once dry I have been beavering away on it for the rest of the day including adding new doors and a couple of down pipes plus a door frame around the vehicle side door which was conspicuous by its absence. I have also modelled the rail entrance with partly open door. Here's how it looks now. Still needs another coat of paint in places but hopefully get that done on Wednesday. Right, time for a brew and a good read..... Mike Unfortunately I was guilty of the set track roundy roundy but after building KoLW for my lad I started to hone my modelling skills a bit more and I finally took the plunge and ripped up the old layout and commenced with the building of PDW. I decided from the outset that it would be a long term project and was more about the modelling than just rushing to get trains running. Enjoy the tea mate. big T
That shed building looks awesome mate. Did you scratch build or is it kit bashed? You have a real knack for getting your models to look real which is really annoying haha!!! (jealousy gets you nowhere!!! ) Hoping the cows didnt fall of the cliff edge! There's a lack of decent DE stuff in them as a rule Hi Rob Sorry mate, I missed your post somehow. I may do eventually. I would like it more complete first and the loco's are in need of some weathering. I must say though I do feel rather honoured, if that's the right word, that you think it's good enough for a magazine. Thank you very much for the compliment. Marcus 37
Need more pics mate, I like the Shed, but I like more scenic pics PRETY PLEASE. Hi AndyI'll try mate although I did post quite a few scenic pics on page 60 whilst you were away. Including the new rake of RMC hoppers. This weekends a no no for modelling as I am route learning Saturday and Sunday ready for a new contract that's starting at work. Saturday will be on the Class 59 between Nuneaton and Coventry. Sunday will be 66773 between Sheet stores and Nottingham if anyone's interested. I'm off Monday so may get up in the loft then. Trev Hi Trev The shed is kit bashed from two Pikestuff kits that Ihad left over from the last layout. Seemed to good to throw out as they are a nice modern building kit. The wagon maintenance shed is up next when I get the time to go out and get some corrugated sheet. Works turned rather hectic again of late although I'm not complaining. When you see what's happening elsewhere. You'll be glad to know the cows are still safe for now. Although the large oak tree is more likely to do them ham when some clumsy sod knocks it over on them when he's cleaning the track. HaHa.
