Mike at C&M
The Christmas card shot is definitely a summer shot, given that the lake is not covered in ice. Snow in August! Global warming, don't you know.

RMweb Premium melmerby Posted December 28, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 28, 2017 That viaduct (C17103) looks to be built on dodgy ground. I wonder how deep the foundations go? Excellent pictures as usual, thank you Dave. Cheers Keith
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted December 28, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 28, 2017 I was wondering about that viaduct myself. It does look most delicate in that position, and it will certainly have taken some design and construction. The foundations must be most deep indeed. Then it will be at risk of rock falls etc., Best regards, Rob.

The line from Goschenen to Andermatt was originally opened on 12th July 1917 by the Schollenenbahn, which became part of the Furka Oberalp in (I think) the 1960s. It is of course a rack railway as it is on a very steep gradient. I can't find anything specific about the viaduct or any other engineering features on the line. It is situated just above the Teufelsbrucke (Devils Bridge) on the road from Goschenen up to Andermatt and the Gotthard Pass. Part of that bridge is visible at the bottom of the photo. Do remember that we are in Switzerland where tunnels and bridges (and whole railways) are routinely built in the most unlikely places in very difficult terrain. Thanks for that extra info. A more recent view from 2017 (Google Earth) shows there has been little if any rock movement in the meantime: https://goo.gl/maps/FnQg8iiizoy I notice there is now a footpath running through the last arch.
