Hopefully, the next two weeks at the club will see them built and the full frontal section complete from a major woodworking point of view.

A 'full frontal' section will certainly see the crowds flock to your first public showing, there may be disappointment for some.

,you are lucky to have such a large clubroom is it an old mill?

Yes - the larger layouts have to be accommodated around the pillars

Cheers,

Mick

Apologies for the lack of updates, but here's a couple of photos of progress so far.

Looking across the main pointwork area in the "down" direction

From the other end. Laying of the curve in progress. Track not fixed down yet..... Loop/run-round on the right. Down main in the middle with up main and up goods loop to the left.

Once all the track is down on the front scenic boards, we'll move on to soldering the dropper wires and carrying out a running test.

Cheers,

Mick

All the track has now been laid on the scenic section.

Whilst not powered up, we thought we'd see what it looks like with a few trains on.

68010 arrives with some IOAs for loading - this highlights the real length of the layout - 32 feet along the front.

Shunting back into the arrival/departure loops

Then the Freightliner HIA set, departs across the single slip.

A few days later, the IOA set arrives from the other direction and shunts back towards the loading sidings

The next tasks will be to cut through the rails at the board joints and tidy up the brass screws that the rails are soldered to.

Then it's onto the wiring, so lots of droppers to solder on and the basic bus wires to lay in underneath.

Point motor fitting may also be high on the agenda.

Cheers,

Mick

Really coming along now.

Those long trains  look superb and will look even better when the scenery is added.

Work on Bankfield trundles on.

We're well into the wiring now.

A view under one of the boards

There are four pairs of wires along the layout.

Inner DCC track bus

Outer DCC track bus

DCC accessory bus

12vDC feed for other stuff, such as building lighting.

We've used DCC Concepts tags to try and keep it all neat.

There is a little bit of work to tidy it up - fixing down the flying leads with suitable clips/anti-strain to minimise the strain on the soldered joints and a few cable ties on the multicore leads.

At one end of each board is a piece of aluminium angle with 4x4mm banana plugs for the main track bus (They are good for 10Amps and relatively cheap) and a 8 pole multipin connector. Although at this stage only 4 are used for DCC Accessory and 12v, we have future provision for other circuits and these are the four coiled wires

This is a closer view of a fully connected pair of boards

We've done three so far and another 6 to do.

The next board to be wired is the most complicated of the front boards - it has 9 of the twelve points on the scenic section.

Hopefully, we'll have that wired in the next three or so club nights.

Cheers,

Mick

This is the main board with the vast majority of the scenic section pointwork on it.

We've just finished wiring it tonight and tested the motors, setting the frog polarity switches . About half of them needed the track feeds to the polarity switch swapping over.

Full pics of  it next week I hope.

Cheers,

Mick
