On Shenston Road. Some recent photos.

Having been asked on a few different threads to show some more of D1047s stock, I thought I'd start up this topic to show some of the locos and stock I've photographed over the years. Some of my earlier attempts are a little crude. (I shall blame the camera) but in recent years, and with a better camera I've been improving somewhat.

Anyway here are some to start the ball rolling.

A general, (slightly out of focus) view of the station at Shenston Road.


Moving on the station holding sidings. Sorry didn't note down the loco numbers.


Cl45 No102 runs through the station whilst Cl47 1674 waits in the goods loop.

Cl22 D6327 waits in the down platform at Shenston Road.

D1028 runs through Shenston Road from the Birmingham Snow Hill direction.

Stroke of luck as D1028 is caught between the hordings from a passing bus.


Well that's a start. I'll add more as time and photography permits.

Hello All. Well back on line and able to upload more Shenston Road stuff. First a look at the theory behind the layout. It is set in the West Midlands on the GWR line between Birmingham Snow Hill and Wolverhampton Low Level at the real location of Swan Village. Here fiction breaks ranks with reality. The Junction at Swan Village with a line branching off to join the Dudley to Walsall line never existed and the station was named Shenston Road instead. The line then dropped down into a tunnel and on towards Wednesbury. It was here that a junction was made with the Dudley to Walsall line. This suited the layout plan as first thought up with a steelworks taking the place of Swan Village goods yard. Well that's the fiction, below is a modified map showing the hypothetical look.

The gradient profile shows how steep the drop was from Shenston Road (Swan Village) to Wednesbury, which suited the actual layout very well.

The storage sidings are at low level under the station area. The track drops down from the road bridge at the LH end of the station to the tunnel mouth at the bottom RH corner. The line at the Birmingham end of the station enters a tunnel and drops down to the storage siding level under the steelworks. This will hopefully give you some idea when looking at the photos. Of which some more of the steelworks area.

The next two featured locos where originally built to run on Eastwell Ironstone, and are not quite in context. First 04, ex D2332 "Lloyd" against the backdrop of the coke ovens.

Andrew Barclay 0-6-0 No4. Modeled on a prototype but I can't remember which one.

47091 approaches Shenston Road light engine from the Birmingham direction and is about to run under the road bridge at the Brum end of the station.

D838 "Rapid" waits in the up platform.

And now some locos from my own Eastwell ironstone fleet. Greg has done the weathering on them. He is far better than myself. I concentrate more on the mechanical side of things and turning wheelsets down to EM standards for myself and Greg.

First a couple of Class 14's. Gregs weathering after I had altered the rainstrips on the cab. Original wheelsets turned down. First D9509 standing in the steelworks.

Next D9519. Note since the photo was taken the horrible holy wheelsets have been filled in with black plastercene.

Lastly D1023 in its marker dots scheme and headboard on the Western Finale railtour in 1977. Modeled so as to run on Wibdenshaw.
