Kirkby Luneside (Original): End of the line....

Come to think of it, t'other Andy (uax6) has gone AWOL too. Hope it's not that blasted virus again - last time it was killing people's tracklaying, now it's just killing the people!

Hope you get some more work done on your 009 layout over the hols. Try not to walk into doors though! http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/public/style_emoticons/default/no.gif

Andy did say a while back that he struggles to get on-line away from work. And don't mention viruses - I've been laid up for a day and a half with something http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.png Not even felt well enough to have a go at anything (even doors - but I've come up with a cunning plan to prevent similar things from happening again: I'll remove all the doors! http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/public/style_emoticons/default/jester.gif)

I'm planning a 6 - 8 week visit to NZ in a couple of years' time. May have to re-schedule in order to overlap the Christmas period. Sounds like fun!!

My brother had his honeymoon in New Zealand over Christmas, he says it's a wonderful place to be at this time of year. Dad had a walking holiday there, and loved it too. It's one of the few places I'd like to go - but the flight doesn't appeal...

Hi all, got e-mail from Jeff and I am back sorted I hope.

Andy

Morning Andy. Glad the email was useful. Nothing worse than puzzling when something doesn't work when it always has done, previously!

Sorry to hear that the dreaded microbes have struck. They seem to be regular visitors in my household, so I know how you feel.

Your sentiments re. NZ are similar to my own. It's one of the few places outside of Europe that interest me and, since I've no experience of travelling beyond Europe, the duration of the flight doesn't appeal to me either! We're obviously very alike!!

I've chosen to cease modelling for a week or so. I need to paint the tunnel portal and since I've almost no paints in stock, that's a no-no. I can't work in the bunker as I'm a hundred miles from it - and it can wait, I'm sure. So it's time to peruse the web, look at the Forum, see what others are doing and "do nowt" myself!

Hope you have a good Christmas, despite the virus. A bit of brandy on a Christmas pud will negate some of its effects!!

Peter's thought for the day

Why do people give you black looks when you accidently drive the wrong way around Tesco's car park?

Regards and Merry Christmas.

Peter

Having eventually got back into the system thanks to Jeff's e-mail I can now ask the question that has bugged me for the last 24 hours, WAS IT A CAR OR A TROLLY that Peter was driving around the car park?

Having got back on and had a chance to re read some bit it transpires that I have some catching up to do. I do like the pics of the tunnel mouth Jeff, and the nice pic of the steamer on the previous page. I will sit down and have a quiet read through later but just a quick glance is enough for me to want to have a propper read and INWARDLY DIGEST.

Incase I forget later, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Prosporous New Year. All the best for 2012 and beyond.

Andy

EDIT, THE ABOVE SHOULD BE 2013 AND BEYOUND, DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, NUMPTY.   AP.

Cheers Andy,

Wishing you all the best, too. I hope "Santa SWMBO Claus" has plenty of railway-related gifts for you. Or, at the very least, a nice juicy cheque to allow you to go and indulge!!

As you say..... ho ho ho!

Andy,

I was probably off my trolley, but (I think) it was a car I was driving.

It was my wife who noticed that I was going the wrong way.....

Andy, I see you're from Swad. When I was little we used to go to the Gresley MRC exhibition held around Easter if I recall. Always enjoyed it; their clubrooms were something of a rabbit warren.....

Greetings from another New Zealander, and many thanks Jeff, and all the other contributors to this amazing thread, for the entertainment, and the tips and hints (some even about model railways! ).

Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year

From sunny Auckland

Hi Jeff,

Tried posting this yesterday...

Almost there with the tunnel mouth, excellent work. When you study the prototype its not quite 'dressed stone' more akin to 'dressed boulders' Those Navvies performed miracles along that line when you realise what equipment they had back then.

I have just e-mailed Hornby asking them to produce an Anhydrite wagon, Bachmann's contact form is suspended until the new year, I tried Dapol a couple of weeks ago and to date - no response. Lets get a campaign going for all Settle-Carlisle modellers to get these wagons eh!

Best wishes for the season, keep up the good work. I will get more done in the next two weeks than in the past ten. Keep a look out on Dent - planning is progressing very soon to DOING!!

Cheers

Mike

Sorry for the delay in replying, folks. Too much socialising, I'm afraid - then a visit to the wi-fi "hotspot"!!

Cheers Mike. I'll email all the manufacturers for the Anhydrite wagon. Will also keep an eye on Dent - I'm sure I'll learn some good stuff from you!

Polly.... Mr & Mrs GWR Trainset?

Mike the Kiwi.... we'll try and put some modelling on the thread in 2013 - if Andy P and Andy G (uax6) give me the chance!! Lol.

All the best to everyone who reads this thread!

Hi Jeff, managed to lay myself low with a virus for the last week, (went to bed on Monday after getting in from work, and didn't get up again for three days!) on the plus side it has given me time to catch up on progress on Looney Kerbside, ( your tunnel mouth is looking great). I've also had a chance to checkout Bacup, Greenfield, and Eastwood Town as well. Some really great modelling there, you are in excellent company.I've even taken the plunge and attacked one of my Bachmann Class 25's with a hammer and chisel!

I'll post pic's when I get a chance.

In the meantime, have a great Christmas Jeff, and best wishes to all the other 'Lunesters' as well.

Thanks Al. We now have a collective name - The Lunesters.... memories of the Munsters and Addams Family come hurtling back!

You've had a bit of a rough year, healthwise. Hope 2013 is much better. Go easy on that poor 25!!

Best wishes to Jayn and Erin.

Hope to see you in early January - lots to catch up on!

Jeff and the Lunesters.

Baggsie I'm on drums.....

Fair enough. Andy Peters is on guitar as he can genuinely play the thing. Am I on tambourine or do I have to sing? It's said that Pete Waterman looks at these pages so we might be on the right course.... "We should be so lucky..."

I wonder when normality will return to the thread.... I suggest a discussion of the S&C's socio-economic impact on the Ribblehead area. No takers. Ok, I'll get my coat...

Thankfully they only struck for a day, and I was able to get back to it today. I've only ever flown for work, or to visit the then other half when she was working in Germany for a year - and I never learnt to enjoy it.

I'm taking a break from modeling too, and doing some 'improvements' to the house - part of which involve partial replacement of one of the railway room walls - so tempting to 'forget' to put it back, and have a little layout in the resulting space...

Hope you have a lovely time at your father's, and your Christmas is merry, and the New Year full of inspiration!

Michael, I have my list of "must dos", but a lot of the inspiration is provided by the Lunesters. I dread to think what I'll have scratchbuilt by the end of 2013!!!!!

Glad you feel a bit better. Do take it easy. I find a few glasses of wine and the odd mince pie tends to help!

Ho ho ho!!!

Polly, where do you get all these (Java?) applets? They are excellent. Now what part do you want to play in the Lunesters band - backing or lead vocal! There is no escape!

Just think, it's only about a month since you found this thread, and look what it's done to you..... Well, you were warned!

I hope you'll have lots of good ideas for KL when serious business re-convenes in January!

Hi Jeff

Smileys are from:

http://www.4smileys.com/ and http://www.tiptopglobe.com/free-smiles-smileys-emoticons-blog-forum-email

Gee, you've got a band!

I'll just try and blend in with the scenery, thank you, though if you do sound I could perhaps blow my whistle (how does a 9F go?)  aka a transverse fife in D.  I can do you a great second rate* rendition of "God rest ye merry gentlemen" - Southern comfort and joy variety of course.

* Still practising - nearly got it!  flute_smiley.gif

Have a good Christmas and Happy New Year to you Jeff and your merry band of Luneside threaders.

A BAND !!!! If I wasn't so far away, I could help out with saxophone, or keyboards. Mind you I was playing in the 60's and 70's. started with Beatles and Beach Boys, but moved on to soul music Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave and those guys. I have to say, I could never get enthusiastic about 20 minute guitar solos.

Regards

Michael

The 20 min guitar solos were designed so the drummer could get to the bar, ho ho

I always said a Bass Player (thats me) was a failed Guitarist and a Drummer is a failed MUSICIAN, ho ho ho

that will stir up a hornets nest I bet.

Back to serious modelling after Christmas I hope, New tunnel mouths, Station Buildings and a whole moorland to complete before next Christmas Jeff, better get on with it then mate.

NO TIME FOR COFFEE BREAKS IN 2013

Cheers Andy. Managed to get online via phone easier than laptop. At dad's, so no modelling. It'll be gd to see what you come up with in 2013. You're on lead guitar so stop insulting the drummer! Lol!Enjoy your mince pies! Jeff
