eastwestdivide
looks like a standard BR AB van in the 200xxx/201xxx series. Has it got a slightly odd suspension?
RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted October 18, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 18, 2012 Not a barrier van as such, I believe it carried the large cylinders. The ones at Broughton Lane did anyway. Mike.

eastwestdivide
That last shot shows it to be one of the vacuum-piped versions. "TOPS" panel looks to show COV A B, but I couldn't swear to it.

RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted October 18, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 18, 2012 Further update as the grey matter starts to percolate. ISTR the barrier vans were actually used as reach wagons used on the Wembley flow to allow the electric locomotive to position the tanks at BOC Wembley. Now, given that the 3 flows were Widnes to Wolverhampton, Broughton Lane and Wembley, what was the Wembley consist doing at York, it's a heck of a diversion. Were there other flows? Mike. BernardTPM
Looks like the van is nearly new, you can see the underframe is neat black, but given the 1970 date, perhaps not surprising. Original two pipe air system too.
Jim76
When were these vehicles withdrawn from BOC use? Jim
