Gruffalo
Arboretum Valley is a wonderful example of something I simply cannot do with my super-giant paws and less than 20:20 vision. Well done you both!
Jaz
It is a sad fact of life, many of us come to this hobby late in life, and those that don't eventually end up in the same boat. With it our bodies are not as reliable. I think that is why many people stick to a small layout, which makes it easier to cope with. I know of several people who still go on the forums but are no longer able to do it themselves. Luckily for us they can still impart their experiences and knowledge, and they can still enjoy the process by watching others do it. Many people are limited by their finances as well. The good thing about the hobby is that we can all share so many aspects. A few have never even had the chance to do much, although they learn a lot here. It is somewhat like reading books about history, you can't be there but you can enjoy the atmosphere regardless. We should always be grateful for what is left to us, and hopefully not be depressed by what is lost to us. Memories and learning are always there to be enjoyed, and shared. Rammy
Many people are limited by their finances as well. I read this wrong at first and thought it said "Many people are limited by their fiances as well" and I thought how true. What a difference a letter makes! lol
freebs
Well said Jaz. I enjoy reading the forums as much as I enjoy making things. I got a little over excited yesterday as I'd got paid and bought a couple of larger radius peco points to replace the Hornby short radius "train set ones" I have at the moment. I also, finally, finished tiling my station roof - blog update to follow today (at some point)
Jaz
I also, finally, finished tiling my station roof - blog update to follow today (at some point) Can I comment on your blog? regardless how did you do the flashing?. Looking very nice too Edit...for the record I am doing some plaster casting joining the cove to the cliff and the cliff to either side, pictures hopefully will follow in due course. Once you start thinking video there is a lot of 'little' jobs you want to complete. Plus the trains/locos need to run around independently and all need programming for this purpose. freebs
Can I comment on your blog? regardless how did you do the flashing?. Looking very nice too I think you might have to sign in to comment - if you've got a google account you can.. The flashing is all done with masking tape. Not sure how this is going to work in the long run, with peeling off issues, but for now it's fine... re the drink - at least you don't go to the kettle and pour the contents into the cup without first boiling - urg! cold coffee! Jaz
Plaster cast is being added to the cove area in preparation for the forth coming video I have painted some of the plaster and am adding more. shown here for comparison The RAF Zollywood has a new addition in the background The plaster cast has to be able to lift off and allow the cove to still pull out for maintenance, this should proof fun.....not An elusive picture of Hogwarts i will also be showing how I expand the original waterfall some more colouring added this is only the initial work and further colour, greenery etc will follow. I used a thineed mix of black beige and terracotta (you can use red) A close up of our new helicopter, don't ask how it ended up at a RAF camp, while we're talking of new additions, I had this for ages but it rarely gets on the layout....and seems to disappear back to its box at speed before I can get a camera near it The Hogwarts Express has literally just been pulled out of a box to take some photos in truth it's a pretty awful model. It runs badly even after cleaning the wheels, due to the fact that only 2 axles have pick ups. A the moment Kal is contemplating whether to add extra pick ups, swop out the wheels with the rubber tyres, add the front light to a function so it is not on all the time and maybe add sound and perhaps smoke, take the coupling off the front, but then it is the wrong locomotive as most people are aware, it should be a Hall, not a Castle and considering whether we should just buy the correct Hall and modify that, and just sell this for spares or repairs once we pinch the name plates off it. We do not have a Hall loco, we have not yet checked out how good they are (or aren't) and wether that might be another can of worms. The other alternative we do have Kidwelly Castle which is a retooled Hornby Castle which already has factory sound and runs rather nicely, so maybe a body swop or a repaint of that might be in order. We won't be doing anything soon it is a low priority.
Removed a/c
Great updates, love the beach scene. The new helicopter is a great additional as well. Is it Corgi?
RSLR
Looks to be progressing nicely Jaz The harbour looks so much better connected to the rest of the model. No need for the peeps to use a really long plank of wood to reach the sea side... which I guess brought a whole new meaning to 'walk the plank' or maybe they used the local air service? hmmmLooks great keep up the good work and keep those cameras rolling in Zollywood I'm still watching with great interest.Cheers, Reece
Jaz
The brit farmer, thanks, and yes your right another Corgi RSLR, thanks, lol I think the plank idea is too high, but a little air service sound great, it hovers out and you jump into the water..... WE are still working on getting the video out, but because I have to make the scenery lift back out there are delays while it dries so I can test it out. Plus whilst we have a little 'good' weather we are tidying the garden. And no a garden layout is not planned =p
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted June 22, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 22, 2013 A the moment Kal is contemplating whether to add extra pick ups, swop out the wheels with the rubber tyres, add the front light to a function so it is not on all the time and maybe add sound and perhaps smoke, take the coupling off the front, but then it is the wrong locomotive as most people are aware, it should be a Hall, not a Castle and considering whether we should just buy the correct Hall and modify that, I would be tempted to sell the Castle on a well known auction site and put the proceeds towards a Hall..... Jaz
Mick don't encourage him he'll sell that poor little misfit, and I may never get a Hall to replace it. He like you usually slavers over diesels. Jaz
Steam MTD, Zollywood in the distance Some of the buildings are Carnforth related, our turntable, however, will be at the Diesel MTD. There's a lot of detailing to add here. Hints and pointer would be appreciated.

Jaz
I cannot take nor put up the videos for a few days, however I can put up pictures These are from RAF Zollywood, a base above Port Lynn Cove. This was a disused old airplane runway dating back to WWII, but is just being brought up to scratch as a Helicopter and rescue base. Several Corgi aircraft have been bought in for this. There is also a re enactment / open day taking part. The 'RAF' enactment civilians could improve on their costumes. Some vehicles have been bought in for the occasion. The landing info including rotor sizes and helicopter weights have not yet been added. The enactment people have seemed to have lost the plot and are not mixing with the visitors, and keep taking the opportunity to hog the specialist equipment. arrival
7APT7
Hi Jaz I'm liking the ZOLLYWOOD idea, like the way you have put your own twist on it... Great photo's Jaz... Jamie
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted July 2, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 2, 2013 That's looking great Jaz, really good. I love how you plan and place your figures and vehicles to add to the scene.
freebs
Great photos Jaz. Where do you obtain your figures/ what are they?
Jaz
Thank you very much 7APT7, considering your not bad at photo taking ;p either. Loved your gallery need to go back and look some more, got tired of pressing the like key Yes we did try to have a back story to work to. Though it adapts as we have to include other things that catch our eye. Some products will end up as trade out items. So that not always the same items will sit in a specific place. Thanks acg_mr The same applies, moving the people around keeps it fresh, and allows us to have a laugh (like the kids following the ice cream van about), and especially when we can theme it on something connected to one of the modellers like Julian. I would have liked Kals birthday present to have been a surprise but as I needed his help sourcing bits and during the construction, that became a moot point. Still he loved it even if it wasn't a surprise. Over time we plan several specifics, for instance we'd like a mods and rockers / Quadrophenia motorbikes / scooters. Thanks freebs I assume the emphasis is on the RAF related figures , they were Model Scene 00/H0 5201 Service Personnel, painting on these became a theme because we had an on running joke with an ex crab (RAF pilot) and painted him with a pink shirt and the figure had it's hand on its waist, I did try aviator sunglasses, but it was pointed out only the US did that - and they looked weird so a quick repaint took place. Our friend Julian was tickled....pink as it happens. We get on very well with him because he does Harry Potter themed stuff as well for his daughter. So this joke did run on for a while. Plenty of rail modellers seemed to like the RAF connection. Kal has found several useful packs, and he did buy a number of the cheapies too, off E-bay both painted and unpainted, I recoloured the parts that were awful, He has abundle of the seated ones to go into coaches too when he has the chance, and if I don't keep nicking them. The security staff are from a pack of Bachmann Police and Security Staff 379-301 THe aircraft personnel was a cheeky borrow Bachmann Permenant Way Workers 379-310, he is meant to be with the tripod, but bent over with his hand up to his face he works quite nicely I have bought Airfix WWII RAF personnel A01747 as well , they are just not painted yet. Airfix appear to be the best detailed and you get 47 pieces, 45 are people. We are also sourcing Airfix NATO modern day ones too. They tend to be out of stock a lot, which I suspect means they are good. Modelzone ;( had them. We have got the corgi
