and whilst the large Clayton West Junction signal box, still languishes on the kitchen shelf, waiting for steps and internal detailing (not to mention a coat of scarlet), my little modern day side project picks up momentum

The box is now looking rather brutal with its security mesh....

Some of you might have noticed across in another thread, this is being built as a replacement for a printed card temporary version.

It's a very interesting modern day box, all sealed up with grills and plate steel...

Starting with a basic shell of 2mm foamex

then wrapping with SE Finecast flemish Bond

post-15693-0-27059000-1417523174_thumb.jpg

Window apertures cut out and cills and lintels added in with pieces of foamex

Top level added in with sliding windows and gables, from plasticard

post-15693-0-20309100-1417523173.jpg

A lot of misting occurred with the windows and solvent here, but I wasn't too bothered as they'd eventually be meshed over and you wouldn't see the glass.

Outbuildings were made separately from plasticard and fixed on the outside ledge

post-15693-0-31130400-1417523172_thumb.jpg

Tiles individually laid

post-15693-0-74297800-1417523166_thumb.jpg

Rear windows plated over with pieces of silvered paper, scored and punched to represent screw heads

post-15693-0-29995600-1417523168_thumb.jpg

Test fitting of mesh

post-15693-0-12336900-1417523171_thumb.jpg

Mesh added with strips of microstrip styrene (10 thou and 20thou) to represent framing - a very light blast of primer, and superglued in place

post-15693-0-88091200-1417523169_thumb.jpg

At this point the roof has had its basic weathering - still lots to do here

The Priory box, from pics I took, (below)  reduced to scale by  "runs as required"  produced a plan. (Z).

I cut it out and stuck it to thin balsa wood, it  has served me well, until Freebs came along

and was   pressganged    volunteered, to scratchbuild, as his yearning to build another signal box,was so great.

In the finishing stages with this little side-project/commission...

Not happy with the sign, so will replace, and just a couple of areas to touch up, but pretty much finished....

Have made a makeshift bit of platform out of hurriedly superglued together foamex, and sprayed grey with masked off white line, to give it a bit of a photographic scene. Pic taken in poor light with phone camera, so once, properly fettled, will take shot with proper camera

That's bloody brilliant mate, that is. You've absolutely nailed it. David should be well chuffed.

You've got to stick that on "how realistic is your modelling" thread
