I see from the cover that the March BRM also features 'The End of the Line'.  That's at the forthcoming L&WMRS Show in March at Stoneleigh Park too.  In fact, looking at the floor plan on the club website its next to Clarendon.

Travel Disruption - Leamington Landslip

Network Rail announced today that the line blockade resulting from a landslip at Harbury will not be cleared until Easter 2015 at the earliest. Subsequently Network Rail revised the re-opening to the 13th March, the week after the show. :(

Therefore anybody travelling by rail to the Leamington & Warwick Model Railway Society Model Railway Exhibition on Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th March 2015 and planning to use our direct bus service from Leamington Spa station to Stoneleigh Park Exhibition Centre is advised to check for updates and the special timetable on the:-

We will continue to monitor the situation locally and post further details as they become relevant.

We will also update the LWMRS Exhibition Website with similar information.

Melbridge Dock has been unearthed for its appearance at Leamington. I was shocked to realise that it's 25 years since our first trip out with it. Even more shocked to realise that people still remember it, or at least one guy visiting our promotion stand in Leamington last week did.

And of course we have the problems with the railway between Banbury and Leamington Spa.

If you are travelling from the Marylebone direction on Sunday engineering works mean there are additional changes to the service. Please check the Chiltern Railways web site.

The message there at the time of this post for the service on Sunday the 8th March was:-

Birmingham - Stratford-upon-Avon - Banbury - High Wycombe - London Marylebone:

A bus replacement service is running between Banbury and Leamington Spa due to a landslide.

In addition to this work the line between Banbury and High Wycombe is also closed.

No trains will run between Banbury and High Wycombe.

2 trains per hour will run between Marylebone and High Wycombe for connecting bus services to Banbury.

Bus replacement service will run between Princes Risborough and Aylesbury (via High Wycombe).

Bicester Village passengers are advised to use Chiltern Railways services and bus replacement services between High Wycombe and Banbury

Sadly I am committed elsewhere, but wishing you a splendid weekend. The Club show was my highlight of the year when growing up and also once I became a member and I am pleased to have exhibited once at the Spa Centre as well as all the years we did the second hand stall. Happy 40th L&WMRS show!

Well what a good weekend at the Leamington Show!

Some very good exhibits but the highlight for me was Richard Harper's model of Sidmouth in P4 (there was a chap on the Saturday who did the 3 hour trip from Sidmouth to Stoneleigh Park just to see the layout).

Virtually complete except for the near corner which is currently on his workbench.

The End of the Line was well received too and always seemed to have a good crowd out in front of the layout.

Despite what Mallard says elsewhere I don't visit every show in the UK  :) but this one is only about 50 miles from base and an easy drive with a 50 mph restriction on the M1 and some leafy lanes to traverse before reaching the Stoneleigh complex.  (I see that more route learning will be needed next year).

The hall reminded me of Warley in that half the hall was partitioned off and, unlike Warley, a stamp on the hand was needed for a visit to the gents.  That aside, the hall was laid out tidily and the free show guide made locating stands dead easy.  Not all the layout descriptions were supported by plans but would you fancy drawing a plan of Overlord?

Reason 1 for visit: layouts.  I never tire of Clarendon and was looking forward to seeing the new extension.   We had a debate on the spelling of Scrubs Lane: when did it lose the second 'b'?  My guess is some time between 1908 when the layout is set and the 1950s when some trolleybuses would display it as a destination and my dad would take me to the public open space that shares its name with a nearby prison.  I don't know how Clarendon matches Ben Jones's definition of a fantastic layout but it sure was good to see it in the last BRM.  Sidmouth was making its debut and what a fine layout it is!  Builder Richard Harper wisely resisted any temptation to compress it, with the result that the M7 and two coach branch train look authentically lost at the long platform.  I never knew the branch when it was open but I see the remains every summer and will look at them with greater interest this year.  Harton Gill is always fascinating with its peaceful co-existence of BR and industrial in an authentically confined space.  Of the other layouts, for once there was not one to which I took an instant dislike!

Reason 2: socialising.  Gwrrob has already grassed me up and there were many others that I know with whom to natter and, for a 'mere' £1.70, take tea (at least they put the tea bag in the cup for you).  Doubtless many other RMwebbers escaped me!

Reason 3:  trade.   One book, a photograph and a packet of etchy bits was my haul.  i was on the lookout for a Ratio Toad kit but I thought that the one on the bring and buy was steeply priced at £10.  Let me guess:  It's rare, Sir.  People don't build kits any more.

Good show, chaps.

Chris

Whilst Green Park is a fantastic looking layout, Sidmouth was a favourite, not only for its superb modelling but I started a OO scale model about 25 years ago with scratch built track. It only had the track down when I had to scrap it as my father wanted the garage back!

Many other great layouts but as usual with exhibiting your own layoit there often isn't enough spare time to look at all the layouts.

I didn't get to Leamington this year but it seemed I missed a good show.

Just wonder what the reason is for a change of venue next year as I quite like the current one, good parking nice large hall etc.

David

It is a good venue if you are travelling by road, though the catering costs are high and parking is dependent upon where the organisers put you, this year the Saturday parking was some distance from the venue because of a Bee Keeping do in the adjoining Hall, this also impacted on the restaurant which looked a bit like a war zone when I looked in. It's a bit harder when it comes to getting there by public transport, as it's more remote.

Change of ownership of the venue has seen increasingly agressive commercial attitudes by them, this meant that we had lost confidence in their organisation, to the extent that at in time the 2015 show was close to cancellation. I can't really see what they have achieved other than having the Hall empty for yet another weekend, it's not as if the place gets much use otherwise.

Co-incidentally the opening of the newly re-furbished college meant that we have a suitable venue close to the centre of Leamington, something we had been searching for for years, which has good parking, a good hall, access within walking distance to the station, good quality catering at more reasonable cost, and somewhere for the partners to go shopping while you are off spending money on railways! All in all I think it will be a better venue, and more likely to attract local visitors.Considerable efforts by the show organisers to attract families on Sunday saw a much greater attendance this year, with noticably more children than usual, a move closer in to the centre of town should assist this even more next year, and hopefully help secure the future for the hobby.

Oh yes, and I shouldn't have to stamp anyones hand before they take a half mile hike to the loo's,the only reason for that was that there was uncontrolled access into the venue through that area, sorry if it seemed like you needed permission to go for a wee!  -  Next year I shouldn't need to be on my feet for 7 hours doing that duty.

Understood!  I'm just thankful you used a rubber stamp and not a hob-nailed boot ...
