Hey jcb, another superb collection of finds. A few details to add if I may.

 

The Commer at Slatburn, 1977 so about the time the new white/blue livery was introduced.

The Trader, not many pictures of these about. I only know of these on the Southern and Scottish regions.

The Maudslay horsebox, 505M HXW627, one of just 3 I know of to carry S R livery, as the Corgi model.

The Chaeside, LNER No. ZJ 0001, does Langly do one of these ?

The Land Rover utility/estate, there were a few of these up in Scotland about 1970-3 ish.

Inverness, they must cover a huge area from there, must be a Saturday for all those to be in the depot !

Coles Crane, a super view, just like the forthcoming Corgi model. I saw a couple at Barrow Hill, and it looks a super model.

The Guy, BUS 84K ? must be a NCL vehicle with B R branding, hauling a 30' skelital trailer with a 27' container which looks to be a former Freightliner box with the red stripe overpainted in blue. Very good to see this livery in colour. There must have been another tractor unit about, to haul the flat trailer with Scammell coupling.

And the other Walkthru with NCL branding, probably prior to getting the Rail Express Parcels sticker.

I always look forward to seeing those finds.

The Langley model of the Chaseside is of a later (late 1950s) version- it's slightly less 'Heath Robinson' in conception. My dad had one when I was a kid- it was already obselete in comparison with the Drott tracked loader and the early hydraulic shovels, which is probably how he got it cheap...

Y.T.S ( youth training scheme) remember those days?.. we managed to get involved in many departments and at one point I was with Eastleigh track `Renew`als` gang working in the drawing office and also out on site hacking about in an old B.R. yellow Leyland Sherpa van ..I`m sure it was more of a `bus` with windows in the rear, we also carried loads of kit about and it had rear opening doors ..? I`ve not seen any pics ( I may of missed them) on this thread..i had my camera on many trips out but never took a pic of the van !..any info?...also does anyone do a `00` model?..Cheers YVM

A couple of Sherpas for the yellowvanman, we had a similar minibus (A reg.) to this one.

There was a resin kit available, I think I may have put a picture in earlier in this thread. Not sure of availability at present.

That picture actually shows some of the many differences in the K2 series. The LH van has the original K2 grille but with the later bumper while the one behind has one of the three versions of the horizontal barred grille used later. There were also changes in the rear lights and lettering styles and, as you can see, different roof heights too with the original low roof largely superceded by the medium height one on the RH van (a higher roof was also an option, I believe).

After the K2 came the final LDV 'Pilot' derivative, the last in a line dating back to 1960's Morris J4.

The kit is most like the one on the left, but with the earlier black-coated metal bumpers (chunkier than the old J4 chrome ones).

Bernard, I had not seen a reference to K2, before. I have always refered to the Sherpas as, firstly Austin/Morris, Leyland, Freight Rover, and LDV 200 then LDV Pilot. Any more information always useful.

I want a model of the LDV 400, many hours driving these.

K2 was the name given to the cleaned up version with the revised bonnet and vertical panel seams introduced in 1982. The larger version (originally 300, later 400 series) came out soon after using some of the same panels. I guess they called it K2 after a mountain you might find a Sherpa going up!

CMSC did the kit (Continental Model Supply Company) but I'm not aware of any stockists. It was still available direct from CMSC the last time this subject came up, a search on RMweb2 should bring up the address (unless Bernard knows any different !).

 

Both versions were done, the older version with the round headlights and chrome grill, and the LH one in Merfyn's pic with the vertical grill.

More interesting stuff jcb. The Anglia would date from 1963-66 ish. with that lettering. I have a picture that shows a green one lettered British Rail with arrows which would date from 1967-8, just before the Escort replaced it.

The Terrier looks new, I don't remember them that tidy. It's a Western or Southern Region one from the registration.

The Loadstar, well doing it's RAC bit. The registration looks to be 'L?D387', I can't find it in my records. Where did the Oxford family go on holiday, noted the car registered in Bury. The Western had some of that style of Loadstar as did the Southern, so could it be West Country area ?

No idea where, but the ferry at 3' 06" is probably the best clue.

I read the registration as LSD 387 which was issued in Ayrshire March-May 1958. All other L?D numbers were issued in 1950 or before, too early for that style of bonnet. I'm sure I've seen a photograph of that particular ferry, Firth of Forth perhaps?

All Scottish BR vehicles were Glasgow registered, so I suspect it's LGD387 of May 1953, and the Scots did have a few Loadstars around that time. Silly me looking at the wrong end of the country.

The Base FG personnel carrier is a rare one used mainly for S&T teams that were often smaller than P Way gangs, but carried more equipment (cable drums etc.)I don't recall ever seeing one although I gather our depot had one before I started. Base have based it on a front and rear photo of a new one at Wolverton works, unfortunatley without registration plates.

Ive nearly finished my 4mm BRUFF, I used an ex Airfix Bedford bowser (former JB models type), shortend it and added N gauge wheels regauged to 16.5mm.

 

Still has some paint and bits (such as mirrors) to do, but nearly there.

 

Ironically, just as I was doing this today, I had a phone call to arrange for a BRUFF to attend a derailment of an 08!!

 

Appologies for the quality of the phots, I may some more in daylight.

That one at Battelfield, contains parts from Ex Tyseley Bruff, C960YOR, when completely finished, my model one will be C960YOR, in respect to some of my former colleagues who where tragically killed when it overturned.
