Hi Phil Memories of making one of thos Dublo Dinky Loadstars into a parcel van years ago, and I had one of the whitemetal copies, Midget Models if I remember. Will dig them out. Very good model 50 years ago but not a patch on a Frank Waller Loadstar. Just a addition, the railway in general had 3 sizes of trailer in use with the Scammell coupling. They were 3 ton, normally hauled by a 3t Scarab or Karrier Bantam. The 6 ton trailer slightly bigger and capable of carrying containers, with 6t Scarabs or almost anything else. The 8t or above trailer had twin wheels and would be seen with the likes of the Loadstar, WE, Bedford OSS, TK and more rare motors like the Commer Superpoise. Merf. Good info on trailers and Loadstars , might have a go at chopping a Matchbox Austin K9 into a tractor unit, problem is its 1.87 , A Dublo Dinky would be ideal but they seem to command good prices. Yes agree, but I was thinking of the 'full size' artic tractors as opposed to mechanical horses (and the 4 wheel replacements) where Austins seem to predominate in net pics. Guest stuartp Posted June 25, 2010 Share Posted June 25, 2010 I usually buy Roadscene , was slightly dissapointed with BR article as nearly all pics seen on the Chris Hodge website If you fancy being a girly swot, the 'country house' in the background to some of the pics whivch the editor couldn't identify is The Grove near Watford, wartime HQ of the LMS and later the BR Management Training Centre. Really enjoying this thread, thanks chaps. I'm learning lots about something I knew very little about. The cab is a Bedford KM, the big brother of the TK for up to 32 ton, BR had none ! Registration of a Bedford demonstrator, a 8 ton tractor. Looking at the picture of Britomart again, it's in Ireland. Notice the CIE A class loco on the poster behind. Probably the Bedford was from Dublin North Wall or Rosslare Harbour. A Sealink vehicle similar to those used in the UK. Cheers Peter. Hi Peter. Yes the picture at Llandudno shows 2 on the cab road at Llandudno awaiting disposal, the road vehicles were maintained there in the old goods shed. These were the last ones in our area in 1985 and I don't have any information of any being used later than 85. My photo of the same one as in Larry's. I have a feeling the silver/grey painted grill was most common to the London Midland Region, almost all their Austin K2 & K4s, Bedford OSSs, Dennis Horla & Morris LCs, seem to be done.
