  1. Might any of the diagrams in this PDF be of any use? Page 99 onwards. Source: https://dickthesignals.co.uk/home/heritage-signalling-information/index.html Edit: The LNER document on the same site has several diagrams for Tyer's 1-wire 2-position instruments - I don't know how similar the two makes were in terns of the wiring...
  2. The red one is one of the rebuilds - you can tell by the little triangular fillet at the bottom of the body side.
  3. There is a similar thing at Alton, MHR, for when it is running under auto-working (i.e box closed) - the driver puts the token into a specially adapted token machine, and then removes it again, and this tells the system that he is ready to depart, setting signals accordingly.
  4. That's nearly as good as this one, in Paris:

The meows can probably be translated to "Human, what are you doing in that hole? Come out and feed me!"
  6. It is indeed, there was an article on them in one of the recent MHR news magazines - they were sold to raise money for the purchase of the 08 used to rebuild the Alton section. Said 08 has just been fully overhauled and restored, and is now looking very shiny.
  7. The signal looks great, your skills with the 3D printer are excellent, and really show how to incorporate modern tools and techniques into traditional modelling.
  8. The solution to that is to keep looking after you find it. That also has the bonus of convincing everyone around that you are truly mad, and thus stopping them from bothering you...
  9. It's the same in many hobbies I think, especially the sporting ones - when I used to be more involved in motorsport it was clear to see the difference in attitiude between those who had spent many thousands of pounds on their cars, and were thoroughly miserable because they'd only come third, and those who had spend a few hundred, and were having a whale of a time despite ending up 23rd. Even better when those in the second group came higher in the results than those in the first, because they actually knew how to drive properly...
  10. But then there'd be pages of debate as to whether they're wearing the right colour of lycra for the era portrayed...
  11. Ventnor never had an engine shed, and the turntable wasn't used to turn locos (there wasn't one at the other end of the line), purely as a loco release to save space - more like a sector plate that just happened to have it's pivot in the middle. Bembridge also had one, which lasted until the end as there was no space to replace it. In both cases locos were always stabled at the main depot at Ryde.
  12. The problem we have with holidays in the UK is the cost - We've looked at it a few times over the last few years (pre-covid), as there's plenty of bits of this country I've never really explored properly, and it's always worked out far more expensive than an equivalent in central or eastern Europe - and in one case, a forest holiday here worked out more than a fortnight in the Caribbean, even including the flights!
  13. That doesn't sound easier than quickly knocking up a bracket!
  14. Maybe there is, but you've found an excellent solution that fits your skillset and tools, and which you know will work.
  15. There's a good prototype example at Ropley (MHR), but I can't find a photo at the moment - the down inner home signal is both very low, and on the right-hand side, with a banner repeater just before the bridge. Not only that, but the down main starter has a co-acting arm (due to the footbridge between the platforms), so there's examples of both ways of solving the sighting issue!
  16. I was expecting that to end "Sure enouh, there was a speed camera just round the next corner"
  17. Similar here, but with the local Rotary group instead. It worked very well for me, not quite so good for my wife as her second jab never got added to the system and the centre was closed when we turned up at the alloted time! Fortunately she was able to get it done as a walk-up at the other centre.
  18. According to the recent SWC article on them, wheelbase is either 6'10"+7'5" (batches G6,C7,X7,D9) or 6'10"+8'0" (batches M9, R9) - scaling to 27.33+29.67mm or 27.33+32mm. The extra length on the last two batches being due to the secondhand boilers they were originally fitted with.

At least you've got the two of them in the same room! We're still having to keep them separated as every time Bonnie sees Benji she gets upset and stalks off out the cat-flap. I think she's starting to get used to his scent around though, and at least there wasn't any violence...

I was once told that the two most stressful things you can do in life are getting married and moving house. This is not true - both of these pale into insignificance compared with introducing a new kitten to an old cat...
  21. Yes - one of the things that annoys me about much of the current EV marketing is the assertion that while they are more expensive to buy, they're cheaper in the long run as you save on fuel - that's all very well, but only if you've got the cash in hand to pay that upfront cost (or are willing to get yourself locked into a hugely expensive lease deal) I saw one online a couple of weeks ago - "work out how much you can save by driving an EV" - except of course it didn't include any of the capital cost in it's calculation, so it's claim that I would save £30-odd per month on fuel and servicing would be predicated on my paying £300-odd per month on lease payments... That and the fact there is still, after around a decade of serious EV development, still only one estate on the market, and that's not a true estate as it doesn't have a flat loadbay...
  22. That looks good Passengers wouldn't be allowed onto the ramp - probably a nice cast iron sign at the top of the ramp saying "passengers must not pass this point" or words to that effect.
  23. I seem to remember from another thread that there was a whole series of these photos by the MR showing the official ways to load and secure various types of goods.
