  1. That highlights just how overscale the Hornby lamps are. As I said a while ago, they'd look good on the Ellis Clarke Black 5!
  2. Its too matt for ex works - either varnish or weather it I reckon. Hadnt noticed previously the 'cam coupling' securing the tender a good 2 ft further from the cab than it needs to be (but at least its allowed Hornby to model the cab doors in the fully closed position 🤣. )
  3. All very true. The exception will be for modern day steam running where mainline loco's carry Network Rail compliant (ie bright) lights - usually but not always on the middle from lamp bracket. Also some of the preserved lines carry similar lamps but usually in the traditional lamp position. My 'local' preservered line - the Severn Valley has used battery powered lamps in lieu of oil lamps and these are noticeably brighter (and a different colour temp) to traditional oil lamps.
  4. This would be one of those models where the premium for DCC or sound fitting is absolutely worth it. Unless they revise the tooling I found removing the body the hardest of any loco I have fitted since coming into the hobby in 2000. Limited space inside once I got in there too as I recall it .
  5. Largely agree. The areas that are better are the front end beneath the running boards, the cylinders and the fact you can’t see daylight from the three quarter rear view, the tender under frame and the under cab pipe work. Only got the one on order and have 3 brassmaster kits ready to complete my requirements using the 2002 model.
  6. Interesting and always good to hear a first hand report rather than commenting on images from the internet. When I saw the BR versions at Warley the white lamps certainly jarred - when my BR liveried version arrives they will be the first thing to be removed once 'acceptance trials' are complete!
  7. Photos on the Rails site appear to be of the actual model now - https://railsofsheffield.com/products/Hornby-r30224-stanier-5mt-black-5-4-6-0-5200-lms-steam-locomotive
  8. Only if its hauling a through freight!
  9. Does the green background imply this is 009 announcement?
  10. Highlights how precise the track laying is on LB - a work of art!
  11. MR review also contains criticism of the shape. Interesting that the two mags which must have had sight of preproduction models (because they are doing Ltd Editions) are now picking up discrepancies. I wonder if off the record comments were made to Heljan which weren't acted upon in the same why comments get made here? I suppose I wonder what the business rationale is when a manufacturer is shown something 'could be better' but chooses to press ahead anyway. Whatever it is its worked on me though hasnt it - because I've got one.
  12. Agree with all of that. I do think though the model sits slightly low on its bogies and if there is a way to adjust that it would be an improvement. I'm surprising myself though that i am happy with the 47 but I still can't bring myself to buy the 25 even though they are now being discounted down to £150. With the Western it was £55 before I could overlook the peaked cap and big windows 🤣
  13. Just lifted my D1526 body from the track whilst keeping the bogie wheels on the rails to try and see if there is slop - there is but by eye I'd say its less than 1.5mm
  14. Its not unknown for models to be manufactured wrong from new - can't say I've encountered this with Bachmann but I've definitely had a Hornby Clan thats opposite to expected - found that out when I went to swap its tender with a Brit. These both were from the early releases of the model.
  15. Interesting review in this months RM where the 47 shares a page with the same manufacturers rereleased 57 with photos from the same angle. Certainly the 47 sits lower on the bogies than the 57 and I think raising the new model a little would improve its look. Hornby mag meanwhile has commented on the ‘face’ being wrong - an interesting stance from they have their own Ltd ed from the tooling.
  16. Hard to say without seeing it but possible the motor leads have been swapped around by the previous owner to correct DCC direction because the chip was put in back to front. If thats the case a blanking plug for DC wont correct this, you'd have to swap the wires to the motor around.
  17. Precisely. And dont feel you need to apologize, if you're happy thats all that matters in this hobby. Personally I love my two tone green D1526. Its got an exceptional sound project, decent speakers, silky smooth running straight out of the box and is happily mixing with all sorts (including older and new new Bachmann 47's) on my layout :)
  18. Easy fix - pop the body off and click the motor back in its retainer. Its more obvious than I describe when you look :)
  19. It’s sort of rude berating a supplier on a public forum whose ‘sin’ in your eyes is not playing the media game but is instead just concentrating on delivering one exemplary product apparently mainly for the love of it. Sit back, relax, enjoy the hobby.
  20. Don’t think the Bachmann theory holds water - good as they are Bachmann 24s have sat on model shop shelves despite some significant discounting wheareas SLW 24’s go for strong money even second hand. Not sure why anyone expects SLW to change its business processes to meet their expectations, the business model clearly works for the owners and the models will sell out as they are delivered. Personally I’m not really seeing a problem at all, mine will come when it’s available and I’ll pay for it then.
  21. Love the York show for the venue, the time of year and for the city itself. For one with a non enthusiast wife it’s the perfect excuse for a weekend away as we book accommodation in the centre and we have a day (usually the Sunday) where we get to do our own thing for a couple of hours - I walk over to the show, she meanders around the city. I thought this years show was particularly strong and had a really high standard of modelling. My personal favourite was a little ‘what if’ of a parcels bay operating as part of the original York station beneath the walls. It was just so well observed. Some really good traders especially with second hand books, I came away with quite a haul! As for ready to run I’d already treated myself on Saturday with a visit to Monk Bar Model shop. Looking forward to doing it all again next year :)
  22. No denying the Bachmann one is very good, but the SLW is next level. It will be worth the wait :)
  23. Just tried my 3 car set (Hattons closing sale impulse purchase) both hauled and pushed over 36 inch minimum curves and Peco large radius points without issues.
