  1. A bit off topic but relevant re the TTS , the Bachmann E-z is an excellent started system for new users to get a feel for digital control, but as you say very limited by the inability to alter CV values ( except of course loco address and forward reverse direction) I have one here which I keep as a spare or in case I need to test something quickly (in the Kitchen!! !) without going to my main layouts. Hoever re your comment regarding not having to modify anything from new, I personally find that many locos I have purchased both for myself & others do need CV values changing Notably CVs 3 & 4 acceleration & deceleration rates, as often these have been set at values which provide a very rapid accel. and very abrupt deceleration. In fact I have had 2 identical locos which had very different charicteristics when tested straight from the box, only recently I fitted 2 Arnold Hornby Brighton Belles with 6 pin decoders, both decoders new previously unused, the running charicteristics of the 2 Belles were different initially, but this was changed by altering CV values
  2. I have received the following info from Tim At Arcadia this was given to him by Hornby when he reported a problem: Change CV 151 to value 255 and change CV 152 to 1. EDIT WHOOOOOOPS Cvs are 151 & 152 not as originally stated both 152, interpretation error!!!!!!!!!
  3. I was speaking to TIM at Arcadiarail only the other day and he mentioned this TTS fault and advised me that Hornby have given him details 0f a CV which needs changing to a different value to sort out the problem mentioned, unfortunatley i did not note the details as the problem does not affect me personally, but obviously Hornby must be aware so perhaps a call to them may help. If a get a chance I will phone TIM and ask him for the details!
  4. Just noticed this thread again! I commented on the noise aspect previously, I have managed to reduce this quite dramatically with my 3, simply take a strip of bubble wrap approx 1.5" wide ( ie the length of the motor housing under the baseboard) and approx 10 to 12" long, wrap this around the motor housing and secure with sellotape, Job Done! This does not have any adverse effect on the signal working, and it obviously wont cause overheating as the motor only runs for a short time & intemittently
  5. Personally I would send it back, you paid good money for one that works not one you have to repair yourself!! I find it difficult to understand why this particular model has so many problems, considering it is basicly 2 powered 2-6-0 chassis which are elctrically linked. I have in my collection several articulated locos in more than one scale none of which have ever given me the slightest problems. This scenario with the Garratt is surely not doing Heljan's reputation for quality any favours!
  6. I would not post here on Christmas day but just seen the News re CITY LINK gone into administration, see news broadcasts re parcels in transit!
  7. It does depend on the locall situation, If the couriers are OK the system works. I have despatched 10 items via HERMES in the last week all were collected on time from me and delivered within 3 days in various parts of the UK INC Northern Ireland. One item would have cost in excess of £16.00 to post via Royal Mail insured for only £50. ( Next day would have been arounf £22) it went for just less than £10 with Hermes insured for £250. I agree this should be moved to the Yodel thread
  8. I would suggest perhaps it is worth telephoning Hattons to ensure they are aware ASAP Lines close 4-00 PM though today Sunday
  9. Confirming that my order from Hattons was delivered succesfully by YODEL today (SAT) less than 23 hours after online order placed
  10. All very strange I have deliveries regularly via YODEL from HATTONS on a Saturday, Ii placed one yesterday (FRIDAY DEC 19th) and checking the tracking details it is out for delivery today this is a usual occurance!
  11. Lead/heavy metal weights which are easily fettled to your required size? Try an Angling Supplies shop they usually have a vast range from tiny lead shot, to large sea fishing weights! I am lucky enough to have one in the town where I live, wish it was a model shop though!!
  12. The 02/Tango could be interesting then?
  13. I installed a couple of Dapol (4mm) signals yesterday, and I am quite impressed with them, the only thing I find a little negative is the sound from the motor when they work, however I suppose it is inevitable this will occur, I would imagine that with other ' layout noise' in the background it wont be as noticeable. Unusually for me I wired them analogue control ( push buttons) rather than digitally, this is just my personal preference as I find that it is sometimes better to keep the signal man's job seperate from the loco crew!!
  14. Would that be the DJH RTR Version in H0? if so VERY nice and 5 times the price of a BR Garratt? Any Photos?
  15. I think I have mentioned before that perhaps the Garratt was produced to a ' price point' in order to gain enough sales to make the project succseful in terms of sales, however it is notable that other Heljan Continental outline H0 steam locos do attract a much higher selling price,, a Danish 4-6-2 Pacific loco listed on Heljans website costs 3695 Danish Krone which is well over £300 ( if my calcs are correct)
  16. Off topic but has anyone tried digitizing a MINITRAINS Loco? May be a little difficult with the 0-4-0 the 0-8-0 may be a bettter proposition when it becomes available, Has anyone any general feedback re the Minitrains loco running qualities> I have heard of a couple of disatissified buyers alhough any one looking for an 0-6-0 may consider the Roco 0-6-0T, which I know is digitizable with a very small decoder and hard wiring ( decoder space under the cab roof)
  17. Kernow's deliveries are impressive I often phone orders in to them around 2-00pm and they arrive early AM, (All the way to Wales!)
  18. As a long standing Hattons customer I can confirm that the service being reprted whilst it is brilliant is NOT unusual. I place many multi item orders with them and without exception they are always delivered, well packed next day.
  19. That is quite an old model, it would be possible to Digitize it by Hard wiring a suitable decoder, I am sure someone on here will point you in the right direction! I am a long time railway modeller but have a much greater 'leaning' towards European & American railways!! ( Funny old world isnt it?)
  20. Re coreless motors, Kato have recently introduced their HO Genesis USA Diesel with coreless motors ( 2 motors 1 in each bogie thus dispensing with cardan shafts and gear towers etc)) The motors themselves are surprisingly small, but they dont half pack a punch! The locos are very smooooth and extremely powerful
  21. Thats very true I only work part time these days, dont really have to but it gets me out and keeps me involved, but on the non working full or half days, I dont seem to have any modelling time, cant put my finger on the reason, but TV may be a culprit too many old films!! A N D Brief Encounter is on today on Film 4 so I will be watching the trains on that !!
  22. Another Bargain and More Excellent KERNOW service. Ordered a FARISH WD 2-8-0 90566 on Friday afternoon, delivered 9-30AM Saturday It was Only £84.00, Always worth checking Kernow's Bargain section, They also list 4-CEPs at £109.95
  23. Kernow ------ Spot- on with service once again, Ordered 2 BR (S) EMUs and an October Continental Modeller yesterday \\\\(Weds) at around 2-00PM They arrived today BY UK Mail at 10-00 AM with Free Delivery
  24. Not made any purchases from Track shak for 00, but I have used them some time back now for some of my Accucraft Garden rail requirement, and believe me the deliveries arrived almost before i put the phone down!! I also remember the care and attention I received with a NG Live steam loco I purchased, John tested it and was not happy with its running qualities, so he spent a lot of time effort getting it right, before he would let me have it, but that loco ran beautifully, ( it lives in Liverpool now) As it happens SWMBO has given her approval to my being allowed access to some of the garden today, so high on the contemplatitive agenda is the possibility of a new garden line
