  1. Restoring some old Dapol Meat Vans - they are not bad, certainly better than I expected.

I still have one in the loft (in the 'shall I shan't I sell it box?'), they were rather fine bodies.

  5. Is the item lurking in the background of any interest to me? Lovely Sentinel- I wish that I had a use for one.......Tim
  6. Tim, I would have preferred if the tatty bits had been tidied so that we could still enjoy the rich heritage that Bristol had to offer. Does that make sense? Tim
  7. Just discovered that it was a practical joke.

  8. There is one at MoD Bicester.
  9. MRJ is written by modellers and for modellers.
  10. Did you resort to Gibson coupling rods?
  11. None of your comment alters the fact that Bristol was tatty - the operative word being 'was' Tim
  12. Rather than do nothing, I contacted the seller who has since amended the submission. He was most apologetic and grateful. Tim

    Hornby B1

I wonder why any credence is given to the 4mt situation, which has emerged on more than one occasion within this thread. I regard the Bachmann model as being prefereable especially when used beside their 76xxx 4mt and when compared with the Irwell Press BR Standards publication. My only regret is the tragic waste of effort and resources pursuing yet another duplicated subject rather than whether X or Y is 'better'. Tim
  14. The announcement of Hornby's S15 was already known anticipated and for £150 there isn't much difference in the RRP and no long wait.
  15. Having looked at the flicker site, the change in Bristol seems to have been for the better. SWMBO was looking over my shoulder at the images and she was shocked by the general tatty state of the city- burnt out cars and decrepit buildings. Did we really like the place in those days or are we blinded by the rose tinted nostalgia specs? Tim
  16. A few months ago, I off-loaded a Silver Fox Bulleid Diesel- total crud and I did post a very clear warning that it was absolutely awful - didn't stop someone bidding £80+ and providing positive feedback. By contrast, an early Sunday morning trawl found a lovely DJH S15, complete and a good runner for just £150 with free P+P. Gosh and darn, that is less than the cost of the bits. Any moral - not really, just the luck of the draw.

Oh, how I dream of a similar debate over duplicated versions of a Southern loco - a 'Goods Arthur' from Bachmann AND Hornby. Are the pigs being checked for flight? Tim
  18. A life on the ocean wave - The Band of the Royal Marines Live enough for me.
  19. http://vwgolfdiary.blogspot.com/ Brian, Thanks, I will updating the Blog as I get more information. Tim
  20. The imminent completion of both the B4 and Ruston has notched up the need for me to start cutting wood- a mirror image of a well-known quayside layout in just 4'x2' seems to fulfil the need for some operating potential, a decent trackplan and the ability to fit in a Beetle. Thanks for the advice, I have Dave's books and a number of photos. Tim
  21. Andi, Just checked, 373 is the Yeovil set, therefore if they are producing the set in the photos, we are quids in.
  22. Though the Maunsell set might sound a more popular proposition, the gated stock had a much longer service life and were widely dispered- a very wise choice. IIRC, the Jidenco kits had issues with the panelling not registering correctly and a set made for the late Peter George on the South Hants Lee-on-Solent layout was a horror. Larry, you have my sympathy. Tim
